Ineke Schuurman Hilversum, 06-03-2012 1 Overview • ISOcat – General – Use in CLARIN – Other cats: RELcat (and SCHEMAcat) • All call 3 projects • CLARIN NL/VL view • Tutorial 2 ISOcat ISOcat: Data Category Registry defining widely accepted linguistic concepts http://www.isocat.org • Kind of database with linguistic specifications, in English (and whole series of other languages) 3 Use in CLARIN Use in CLARIN: • what is in resource A meant with notion X ? – There may be several (valid) definitions !!! • Does X have the same meaning in resources A and B ? • • For (human) users Also for information retrieval etc 4 Other cats • ISOcat: defining concepts ongoing • RELcat: relating concepts just started • SCHEMAcat: schematic overview of concepts used in specific application, tagset, … about to start 5 Call 3 projects All call 3 projects (like previous calls) are to • come up with definitions for the concepts used in their projects – – • Adopting existing descriptions IFF these match your needs Come up with new definitions Note that this also needs to be done for concepts used in your definitions – Adposition: “word occuring […] composed of a noun, pronoun, noun phrase, […]” Warning: can be a rather time-consuming task! 6 CLARIN NL/VL view To make all our lives easier, a CLARIN NL/VL view has been created. In that part we (i.e. all members of the group CLARIN NL/VL) can see all concepts and definitions already used within CLARIN NL/VL AND also which ones have been approved! 7 Tutorial Together with Menzo Windhouwer (developer ISOcat.
