New Recycling Programs  New campus-wide combined recycling program  one container; no sorting  Containers made from recycled materials  Expanding recyclable materials:  Printer ink collection centers  University Common, Williams Center  Plastic bag recycling containers

New Recycling Programs  New recycling options:  Over 3,000 recycling toters  campus rooms/offices, Residence Halls  new recycling locations  all Residence Halls  new Centre Point Lounge  120 interior, 18 exterior collection containers

Recycling Locations & Events  16 New Recycling Dumpsters  2 Abitibi Paper Retriever Dumpsters  on campus and public use  Special Event Recycling  Commencement, FredFest, Homecoming, Concerts

New Combined Recycling Dumpsters placed at all Residence Halls, near several academic buildings

Construction Project Recycling  McGinnies Hall doors    Habitat for Humanity Construction/demolition debris Summer construction projects materials   Alumni Hall, Williams Center basement Scrap metal  Used tires, motor oil, automotive batteries

What can be Recycled   Distributed to faculty & staff Located at recycling centers, in residence halls COMBINED RECYCLING Simply place all acceptable items in the recycle bin – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – Plastics #1 – 7 (#‘s marked in the recycle logo) Glass Bottles and Jars (all colors) Aluminum and Tin Cans – Food or Beverage Containers Aluminum Foils, Pie Plates, Roaster Pans Gift Wrapping Paper (except the metallic style) Office Paper, Colored Paper, Card Stock, Post-it Notes Newspaper and all Inserts Clean Paper Towels, Napkins and Plates Envelopes (manila and regular) File Folders Telephone Books Magazines, Catalogs, Junk Mail Soft Covered Books Hard Covered Books with Cover Removed Flattened B ox Board (cereal, gift, shoe boxes, etc.) Clean Cardboard (with the corrugated wafer in the middle) Moving Boxes, Banker Boxes, Shipping Boxes All items must be rinsed Boxes must be broken down Waste Items – Food Waste, Pizza Boxes, Styrofoam, Ceramics – Plastic Cups, Plates or Utensils if soiled – Paper Towels, Plates or Napkins if soiled Plastic Grocery Bags should be returned to the store

Green Landscaping Subcommittee

Plantings  Over 100 trees in 2008   Perennial planting beds  reduces maintenance labor  saves cost of plantings Native planting area  reduces maintenance costs  reduces water usage

Additional Projects   EPA approved ice melter: Ice B’Gone   decreases costs provides safer roadways and walkways  protects lawn areas on campus Additional bike racks   reduces energy uses encourages healthful lifestyles

Public Relations Subcommittee

Mission  Publicize on-campus events and initiatives  SUNY Fredonia  proactive and environmentally responsible  internal and external audiences  thought-leader on sustainability

Energy Conservation Subcommittee

Energy Management Programs  Expanded Energy Management System   remote temperature settings staging of street lights  Goal:  include and control exhaust fans  domestic hot water

Lighting Control Programs     Automatic timers  mechanical rooms Occupancy sensors  residence hall laundry rooms Residence halls program  student CFL exchange Goal:  identify additional areas for occupancy sensors
