Importance of 150 Hrs
Keep in mind that you have to
have 150 hours if you want to be
a CPA.
Many CPA firms will only
consider hiring those who will
complete 150 hours.

Importance of 150 Hrs
Many top employers (other than
public accounting) want to hire
students who have the ability and
desire to be CPAs.
They compete with CPA firms for
students with top academic &
professional records.

Importance of 120 Hrs
Some top employers are happy
to hire those who will only
complete 120 hours.
Those jobs may involve less
reliance on technical skills
(MACC courses not taken).

How to Get a Great Start
1. In business, we have to work to
promote our careers – starting
with getting that first job.
2. Students want to show employers
that they have the educational
background, commitment to
excellence, skills, etc. to be a
valuable employee.

15
How to Get a Great Start
3. Prospective employers
need a way to see if job
candidates have the
qualities they need to be
successful.

How to Get a Great Start
4. A 30-minute interview
is important, but not
enough.
5. Internships can be
the answer.
4/27/2004
UNC Charlotte
17
Many Employers….
1. Make job offers to about 90% of
their interns – when the
internships are completed.
2. Have about 90% of those offers
accepted.
3. Have decided that internships will
be the way that they hire most of
their new employees.

Our Plan:
Help students
who want to
obtain internships
4/27/2004
UNC Charlotte
24
Our Plan
Public Accounting Firms often want
interns during the Busy Season.
If you want to work for these firms,
you need to plan your schedule
so you can spend the Spring of
Senior year working full-time.
Then come back to UNC Charlotte to
complete the BS and the MACC.
4/27/2004
UNC Charlotte
25
Our Plan
Some Public Accounting Firms
want interns to work at times
other than during “busy
season.”
Some banks, other corporations
and government also recruit
interns for various time periods.

What You Must Do
You should already have your
resume prepared, and seek
input on how to improve it.
