BY : Dr. Auday Amer Fadhel (Design Coordinator) Assist. : Nadeen Khalid Mohammed (Junior Process Engineer)

Introduction:

New Nassiriya Refinery is a grassroots Refinery to be located near Nassiriya in southern Iraq (approx 200 km from Basrah and approx 300 km from Baghdad) with a capacity of 300,000 BPSD.

.……………….

The Refinery is to be designed to be capable of processing 300,000 BPSD of Nassiriya Mishrif crude oil or a 50/50 mix of Nassiriya Mishrif (27.8) /Basrah regular (32.5) crude oils.

……………………………………………… The Refinery design is based on meeting the more stringent of International specifications (Euro IV, except Euro V for sulphur content for white oil products) or local Iraq specifications.

The main products from the Refinery will be: 1. LPG 2. Regular, Premium And Super Grade Gasoline 3. Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) 4. Kerosene 5. Light Gas Oil 6. Heavy Diesel Oil 7. Fuel Oil 8. Asphalt 9. Sulphur The Refinery has the capability of maximizing the production of gasoline and diesel by adjusting capacity, cut points and/or operating conditions of key process units. The Refinery includes all process units and associated utilities, offsite and infrastructure facilities to support the Refinery operation.

Configurations Comparison:

Large FGD requirement because of pitch qualities, higher sulfur content of fuel oil and excess power generation.

Configuration No. 3 was taken forward for closer evaluation on the following reasons:

Configuration 3, mass balance ( base case 100% Nassiriya Mishrif )

Configuration 3, mass balance ( alternative case 50% Nassiriya Mishrif , 50% Basrah Regular)

Configuration 3 capacity:

• Based on previous work, SCOP considers a refinery configuration with an EBVRHCK as the upgrader:
