Is Attaining WACE Enough?
To be competitive students taking a university
pathway should aim to score:
 Stage 3 courses - a ‘B’ (65% +) or higher
 Stage 2 courses - an ‘A’ (75% +).
Students aiming for a STP/TAFE Certificate IV or
Diploma may need:
 ‘A’ grades
 National VET Qualification
 Work experience to be competitive.
INDIVIDUAL EXAM STUDENT CASE STUDY
The reason why students must put every possible effort into
the exam!

Competitive portfolio entry into some ECU courses will be the only
option available to this student.

PRIVATE CANDIDATE

Students may wish to enrol in an examination as a Private
Candidate.

This means that they can’t have studied that course at
school or at S.I.D.E., although they may have studied the
Stage 1 course.

Only the examination mark counts towards ATAR.

Applications close 3rd July (without late fee) and a $36.00
cheque is payable to the Schools Curriculum & Standards
Authority. Forms are available from Ms. Schofield.

Late applications will be accepted until 2nd August (an extra
fee will apply).
Special Examination
Arrangements





For candidates who may be disadvantaged
in demonstrating their knowledge and skills
in the WACE exam.
The problem must relate to examination
situations.
Evidence provided must come from the
school, psychologist and medical
practitioner.
Apply for Special Examination Arrangements
- applications close 24th May. The college
must have them by 10th May.
See Ms. Pendlebury for further information.
Sickness/Misadventure

For circumstances beyond student’s control.

For temporary sickness - non permanent disability.

For sickness or misadventure occurring during or just prior to the exam.

The candidate is responsible for gathering the evidence.

Applications close 27th November.

Forms available from the exam centre ( or you can contact
Ms. Pendlebury).

Decision is final - appeal available on the process only.

If approved, the SCSA calculates the examination mark using your school
assessment as a basis. The higher of the actual examination mark and the
calculated examination mark becomes the examination mark that is given to you
for that examination.
Revising For Exams
Two things that can interfere greatly with revision:
 Not starting early enough;
 Not knowing how to revise ( if unsure – seek help/advise).
The Learning Support Advisors (Ms Bland and Ms Hamburg)
will visit all Yr 12 Mentor classes to advise on study
techniques.
A 6-week program of Study Skills will be run in the weeks
leading up to Semester 1 & 2 exams.

Hints









REGULAR MEALS
REGULAR SLEEP
REGULAR EXERCISE
Know your best time to study.
Don’t spend too long on any one course.
Work in 45-50 minute sessions.
Do the “easy” things when you are getting tired
If there is not enough time – don’t leave out whole
sections .
Take it easy the night before an exam – don’t study
late, do light revision only, do some general
overview & diagrams.
