Cross-border network for knowledge
transfer and innovative development in
wastewater treatment
project coordinator dr Zita Seres
 There is a need to prevent further pollution by
treatment of wastewater in order to achieve
emission limit values and environmental quality
standards
 Education of young professionals in accordance
with new findings is vitally important for the
implementation of these goals.

Pesticides and their degradation products frequently contaminate ground or
surface water and soils.
This contamination should be prevented as far as possible, not only because of
their direct toxicity to man, but also because of their influence on the water
biocenosis and their potential accumulation in the food-chain.
Extracellular fungal laccases are able to oxidize and polymerize these highly
toxic compounds into less soluble, high molecular mass compounds that may
be easily removed from water by sedimentation or filtration
