•Primary “instructor” : the Hawkes computer
courseware
•NOT a distance education class rather a “hybrid”
course
•All assignments and tests: completed on the
computer.
•No lectures, but I can assist if you need help.
•While there are deadlines for assignments and
tests, students find this format a bit more flexible.
•All work except TESTS can be done at home or
on other campus computers.
•It is a good way to review materials that you
learned in the past.
•Many students are more successful in a
structured, lecture environment.
•While there is an instructor available to help, you
are responsible for learning the material via
computer courseware.
•There are no scheduled lectures.
•You like learning on your own.
•The material you are learning is, for the most part,
a review of material you have had in the past but
have forgotten.
•You are VERY self-motivated.
•Wrong course? Is the material too easy or too hard?
Please see me.
•Lecture course better?
Check immediately for any open sections and make the
change. (Unfortunately, by the time the quarter starts, many
courses are already full.)

How to use
Hawkes Learning Systems
courseware
Select the assigned CHAPTER & LESSON.
IMPORTANT:
While you purchase the entire Hawkes Curriculum, not all
chapters and lessons are required. Check the colored
ICONS to see which lessons are assigned.
Click on the Instruct button for access to narration,
example problems and definitions. Click on the
Video link (bottom left) for an instructor video.
Click on the Practice button for unlimited practice
problems. You can choose the level of difficulty
and get help using the Tutor button.
Click on the Instructor Connect button for help from your
instructor. The screen shot will be placed into a message
where you can type your question.
In the Practice section, click on the Tutor button at
the bottom of the page for Step-by-Step help with
a problem or the entire “worked-out” solution.
You can enter answers containing symbols such as
exponents and fractions by using the keypad.
The fraction and exponent keys are in the bottom of the
keypad. You can also often enter mathematical symbols
by using the shortcuts on your computer’s keyboard.
Click on the Certify button to complete your lesson
certification. Each certification is a mastery-level
assignment.
•
You may miss a certain number of questions and still pass. About
80% of the problems must be correct.
•
Missing more than the allowed number of questions means starting
over with a new Certify.
•
No penalty exists for starting over. Go back to Instruct and Practice
to review the material.
•
Completing the assignment means your grade is 100%.
•
If homework is not completed, your grade is a zero. You will be
unable to take the test.
Upon completion of an assignment, a certificate will appear on the
screen. If you have an Internet connection at home or you are
working from campus, saving or printing the certificate is OPTIONAL.
One option is to save the Certificate Code to a Word document to
record your work.

as been registered in my gradebook.

have unread messages & gives quick access to your Inbox.

column to see if your
certification is
registered in your
instructor’s grade
book. A green check
means On Time, a
yellow check is Late
and a red x means
past due.
