
PTKares is a student-run, peer mentoring
program that seeks to help new or at-risk
students succeed at Mt. SAC.

Our Mission is to improve student success for
incoming and economically disadvantaged
students at Mt. SAC. By sharing knowledge of
college resources and successful academic
strategies, peers will increase college
completion and enhance career readiness of
their fellow students.

PTKares was founded by the Mt. SAC chapter of
Phi Theta Kappa, the international honors
society of the two year colleges. PTKares is
open to all Mt. SAC students.
Mentors and Mentees meet together on a
monthly basis. During these meetings, Mentors
provide Mentees with useful resources,
helpful activities, and
encourage their
academic success.


Students who are there to
guide others and provide
additional resources are
Mentors.
Students who are receiving
the guidance are called
Mentees.

Both Mentors and Mentees will be required to
attend “Mixers” during the semester in order
to obtain a certificate for the program.
Mixers are social gatherings,
which may offer additional
information and activities
for both Mentors and Mentees.
