What is TA? • TA (Teacher Advisor) is a homeroom period, three times a week for 19 minutes on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. • TA’s are grade level and alphabetically assigned according to counselor. • Freshman TA is designed as a supportive environment to help with the transition from middle school to high school. • Upperclassmen mentors serve in our Freshman TA. What support services are available? • Powerschool to check on grades • Teachers available before and after school to help students • 8th Period: Mon – Thurs in the Media Center until 4:30pm • Guided Study Hall: smaller size study hall • After Hours: Tues and Thurs until 6:30pm • Tutoring: with an NHS student before or after school or during your study hall Is a study hall necessary? • A student that has good study habits outside the school day and utilizes classroom study time may find a study hall is not necessary. • Can’t decide? Can do a study hall semester 1 and an elective semester 2. • EHS graduation requirements can be easily reached if a student takes a study hall each semester and pass all of their classes. What is a credit? •If a student passes a semester class with a grade of 4 or better, one credit is earned. •To graduate from EHS every student must earn 42 credits. •A student can earn 14 credits a year. •A student can have a study hall every semester and have enough credits to graduate if they pass all of their classes. How are the recommendations on the registration sheet made? • Honors English: – Middle school teacher recommendation – Standardized test scores – Writing Sample Score – NeSA-R Score • Math: based on current math class • Spanish: Middle school recommendation • New students to EHS: recommendation from previous school Special Programs Support Classes: • ESLA: Current Placement or standardized scores • ESAT: Current Placement or standardized scores • Study Hall: 8th Grade Teacher Recommendation • Resource Study Hall: Special Education Services (SPED) recommendation HALE (High Ability Learners) •HALE Freshmen Seminar: half class time, half study hall time Should I take a foreign language freshman year? • If a student is in an English or math support class, we do not recommend adding a foreign language class at this time. • However, if a student has been fairly strong in English and math through middle school, they should be adequately prepared to begin a foreign language their freshman year. • Many different college requirements for foreign language. There is not one right answer. Summer School Options • Career/Info Tech (CIT) online – Web-based – Complete at home, test at school • PE 9/Health – Taken at school – Very strict attendance Take this summer or next summer. There are no exceptions if deferred. Summer School Contracts • Boxes available by the front door to turn completed contract in tonight. • Carefully consider time frame and your student’s summer plans. If student does not drop by the deadline, student will receive a 5 on the transcript.
