A typical school day at EHS
• 7 period school day.
• Class periods are 51 minutes each.
• Students are required to enroll in 6 classes
each semester (one study hall is optional).
• Classes start at 8:10 and the day ends at 3:20.
What is TA?
• TA (Teacher Advisor) is a homeroom period, three times a week for 19
minutes on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
• TA’s are grade level and alphabetically assigned according to
counselor.
• Freshman TA is designed
as a supportive
environment to help with
the transition from middle
school to high school.
• Upperclassmen mentors
serve in our Freshman TA.
What support services are
available?
• Powerschool to check on grades
• Teachers available before and after school to help students
• 8th Period: Mon – Thurs in the Media Center until 4:30pm
• Guided Study Hall: smaller size study hall
• After Hours: Tues and Thurs until 6:30pm
• Tutoring: with an NHS student before or after school or
during your study hall
Is a study hall necessary?
• A student that has good study habits outside the
school day and utilizes classroom study time may
find a study hall is not necessary.
• Can’t decide? Can do a study hall semester 1 and
an elective semester 2.
• EHS graduation requirements can be easily
reached if a student takes a study hall each
semester and pass all of their classes.

Should I take a foreign language freshman year?
• If a student is in an English or math support class, we do
not recommend adding a foreign language class at this
time.
• However, if a student has been fairly strong in English and
math through middle school, they should be adequately
prepared to begin a foreign language their freshman year.
• Many different college requirements for foreign language.
There is not one right answer.
Summer School Options
• Career/Info Tech (CIT) online
– Web-based
– Complete at home, test at school
• PE 9/Health
– Taken at school
– Very strict attendance
Take this summer or next summer. There are
no exceptions if deferred.
Summer School Contracts
• Boxes available by the front door to turn completed

• Carefully consider time frame and your student’s summer
plans. If student does not drop by the deadline, student
will receive a 5 on the transcript. Class will then be taken
during 9th grade.
• Students will be notified of placement in April.
• If you have not decided yet, turn in signed registration
sheet tonight and return the contract to EHS
Counseling Center by March 12th at 4:00.

Various researchers have noted a strong
association between student involvement
in extracurricular activities and improved
attendance, behavior, and academic
performance.
• EHS – 75% of students are involved in at
least one activity
• EHS Participants Average GPA = 3.1
• EHS Non-Participants Average GPA = 2.5
Average GPA of students participating in
1 ACTIVITY = 2.7
2 ACTIVITIES = 2.96
