History of Lambda Workshops
• Lambda workshops are by invitation only but
always attached to an open event related to lambda
networking:
• September 2001: first Lambda Workshop in
Amsterdam followed by open Lambda Workshop
organized by TERENA
• September 2002: second Lambda Workshop in
Amsterdam attached to iGRID 2002
• August 2003: third Lambda Workshop in Reykjavik
attached to NORDUnet 2003

• Lambda terminated on Cisco ONS15454 muxes,
– WAN side: SONET framed: OC48c

GLIF: Global Lambda Integrated Facility
• GLIF will be managed as a cooperative activity
• GLIF.IS will be launched soon as home for all
interested in the GLIF activities
Next steps
• Preparation of demo’s at SC2003
• Reaching out to the application developers
• Adding more equipment, services and lambdas to
GLIF, national and international
• Setting up the GLIF.IS portal
• Next Lambda Workshop will be attached to the UK
e-Science Conference in September 2004
