EDeAN Objectives

The “European Design for All e-Accessibility Network”
(http://www.edean.org)

Established in 2002 by the European Commission
and the member states in order to :




Raise the profile of Design For All (DfA) and emphasize its
importance in achieving greater accessibility in the
Information Society for as many people as possible ;
Provide a European forum for DfA issues ;
Raise awareness for DfA in the public and private sectors ;
Provide input for European curricula on DfA (in accordance
with the eEurope 2002 Action Plan)

DfA in the Information Society

Broad and multidisciplinary connotation, abstracting over
different perspectives ; design (Bühler & Stepahnidis, 2004)




of interactive products, services and applications
of products, which have standardized interfaces
of products which are easily adaptable to different users.
In the Information Society, the adoption and practice of
DfA, although advocated by many actors in the field, still
presents significant challenges, due to the inherent
characteristics of the sector, and in particular to established
industry practice and curriculum for DfA.


The Special Interest Groups (SIGs) of EDeAN are
formed and operate in order to significantly
contribute to advance DfA knowledge on a range of
topics, including :

Benchmarking ([email protected])
 Policy and Legislation ([email protected])
 Standardisation ([email protected])
 Proactive assessment ([email protected])
 DfA curricula ([email protected])
