GLCSEC: How the program works

GLCSEC: STUDENTS IN E/MC ENTITY
Between Freshman and Senior years earn up to 30 college credit hours.
(virtual model of delivery, dual enrollment, career technical
coursework, or direct credit coursework)
During 5th Year they must take one (1) high school class and five (5)
college classes per semester (30 college credit hours)
After successful completion of 5th year will receive High School Diploma
along with either an associates degree or up to 60 transferable credits
Participating post-secondary institutions: KCC, KVCC, K-College, &
WMU.
GLCSEC: STUDENTS IN E/MC PROGRAM
District has waiver from participating colleges to increase Dual Enroll
Limits during high school freshman to senior grade levels.
Student does not graduate instead during 5th year student takes one (1)
high school class and five (5) college classes per semester. (Class is
being worked out)
After successful completion of 5th year student receives high school
diploma and college credits or certification.
GLCSEC & Kalamazoo County Early-Middle College Program
The Gull Lake Community Schools Early College will enhance The Kalamazoo
County Early-Middle College Program (KCE/MCP).
Gull Lake Students will be able to participate in either program.
The KCE/MCP will focus on Associate Degrees and Certificate Programs with
KVCC . While GLCSEC will focus on Associate Degree & transfer to four year
schools.
Students who do not finish the program will receive a technical certificate
awarded by Michigan Early/Middle College Association for their college
readiness approved curriculum. (must complete: Michigan Merit
Curriculum, minimum of 15 college credit hours with a GPA of 2.0 or higher,
and complete either 100 hours of community service or 40 hours of career
exploration, internship, job shadowing or clinical experience)
GLCSEC
Gull Lake’s current instructional programs are tailored to meet the
needs of all students and includes a rigorous college-preparation
program
Gull Lake is a college ready district with an exceptional graduation rate
and college attendance rate.
Gull Lake offers AP classes that are taken by a significant number of our
students
Gull Lake sees the Early College program as another route to college
preparation and success, enabling more students to attain their
educational goals
GLCSEC & Counselors
A priority with Gull Lake Community Schools is its counseling staff.
The intermediate school has one counselor, the middle school has one
counselor and the high school has 3 counselors.
Our 3 high school counselors will be involved in guiding the students in
the Early College Program
All students have an Educational Development Plan that is revised
annually beginning in grade 7. Guidance counselors will be integral to
the alignment of a student’s EDP/ILP and Early College
