Data Seal of Approval Governance

Governance and Regulations

• DSA governance has broad goal of ensuring that the DSA is community-driven and

sustainable

• Full DSA regulations can be found on the website – datasealofapproval.org

DSA Community

• Any organization that earns the Data Seal of Approval is automatically a member of the DSA Community • Our DSA Community is now 35 strong and growing • DSA Community member has right to materials display the current DSA logo its website and promotional • Optionally, may hold membership in the DSA General Assembly

DSA General Assembly

• Organizations with a current DSA are members of the DSA Community and entitled to become members of the DSA General Assembly (GA) • GA members have voting rights • GA members nominate and vote on DSA Board membership (four to eight Board members in total) • GA members commit to a maximum of three DSA peer reviews per year • • Makes the DSA community-driven and sustainable Permits a second review of each repository

DSA Board

• The Board governs the peer-review process, the modification/amendment of DSA guidelines and regulations, and general policy • The Board meets virtually every two months and face-to-face once a year • Board members review repositories as needed

Next Steps

• Community-driven organization is just getting started • Now activating the GA – have polled DSA holders for their interest • New Board will be elected by the GA this fall (through electronic vote) • New Board will serve for two years beginning after the election

• New Board will elect a Chair and Deputy Chair from among its members • New Board will review guidelines and make changes • New Board will work with the WDS on common requirements and procedures • Interested? Please consider joining the GA and serving on the Board
