A Tribute To A Great Man of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Dr. Curtis L. Walker Husband, Father, Educator & Brother October 15, 1932 to October 8, 2006 From Georgia to Detroit to Aliquippa At 7, Curtis came to Aliquippa where he left his small home each day as a boy, delivered papers and began his walk to school. The road he traveled ultimately turned Dr. Walker into an administrator in the Aliquippa public schools. A few years ago, he retired from the Pittsburgh Public Schools, where he was one of the district's first black deputy superintendents. A Tireless Warrior for Children “Whether or not you reach your goals in life depends entirely on how well you prepare for them and how badly you want them. You're eagles! Stretch your wings and fly to the sky.” Dr. Ronald E. McNair “Men, real men of Omega caliber, strive for that which is most difficult of attainment.” Walter H. Mazyck-1925 Dedicated Family Man In seventh grade, he noticed Margie Byrd, a little girl with a twinkle in her eye. They later became high school sweethearts and married in 1956. Curt and Margie raised three daughters; Curtistine Walker, Anita Walker and Cara Walker. Dr. Walker worked extra jobs to take them on family vacations during the summer. At home, his wife was the hand of discipline, but Dr. Walker was the ear of compassion. "He doted on us," said his youngest daughter, Cara Walker. Curt’s Omega Sweetheart In August of 2006, the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. FRIENDSHIP While serving the Lord and spending time with his family were most important to him, Bro. Walker also enjoyed fraternizing with fellow Men of Omega. Commitment To Service Dr. Walker organized for the Pittsburgh chapter of the United Negro College Fund and was active with the Panhellenic Council and other social, educational and fraternal organizations. Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance & Uplift Bro. Walker lived his life emulating Omega’s Four Cardinal principles. Although he will be missed, his memory lives forever because he was a true Bridge Builder. Always the master of his own fate, Curt met any challenge face to face. LIFE A crust of bread and a corner to sleep in, A minute to smile and an hour to weep in, A pint of joy to a peck of trouble, And never a laugh but the moans come double And that is life! A crust and a corner that love makes precious, With the smile to warm and the tears to refresh us, And joy seems sweeter when cares come after, And a moan is the finest of foils for laughter And that is Life! -Paul Lawrence Dunbar Bro.
