“JETER” ARTICLE
Do a think-pair-share with the “Before Reading”
questions.
Read the article “Jeter: Put Your Money Where
Your Fans Are” and pay attention to the writer of
the article and how he feels.
Highlight parts of the text where the author appeals
to logos, pathos, and/or ethos.
Fill out a SOAPSTone worksheet for the article.
Respond the “After Reading” question on the
back of your SOAPSTone.
AUTHOR’S PURPOSE PRACTICE
(HOMEWORK DUE ON THURSDAY)
This homework assignment is double-sided.
Students will read the passages and answer
multiple-choice comprehension questions for each
passage.
The questions focus on author’s purpose and
perspective, which is the skill we have been working
on in class.
Extra points will be added for those that
highlight/circle evidence from the text that
supports their answers.
TPCASTT FOR “A MAN” AND “MOCO
LIMPING”
The lesson will begin with a discussion of what a
TPCASTT is and how to use one.
Read the poem “A Man” with the teacher and
answer informal questions about the poem.
After reading the poem, answer the TPCASTT
questions to analyze the poem.
Read “Moco Limping” with a partner and use a
TPCASTT to analyze the poem.
Both of the poems will be kept as examples of
using the TPCASTT strategy.
“TEEN BRAINS ARE DIFFERENT”
(CORNELL NOTES INCLUDED)
Directions:
Read “Teen Brains Are Different” on page 454.
Pay attention to the details in the story to help
you formulate the main idea.
As you are reading, answer the questions about
main idea and details on your Cornell notes.
On the back of your Cornell notes, make a
graphic organizer that organizes the main idea
and details in the passage.
SUMMARIZING PRACTICE
1.
2.
3.
Read each passage.
Write a one sentence summary about each
passage.
For each passage, develop a title that would fit
best based on the details within the passage.
Pay close attention to the details because they will
help you figure out what is mostly being talked
about. Those details will help lead you to identifying
an appropriate title.
