Myths of the Gun

The Gun Is A Pass Only Offense:
Similar to the Run-and-Shoot in the 80’s, people
perceive the gun as pass first
 The Gun Is A Finesse Offense
You can run a power offense from the gun!
 The Snap Is Too Easy To Fumble
How many snaps have you fumbled from under
center? How many of those did you lose? Gun-1
mishandled snap every 201 plays: 1 Lost. Under
Center-1 mishandled snap every 119 plays: 6
Lost
 Your line must be in a 2 point stance in the Gun
You can operate from a 3 point stance.
 You can’t block the box if you spread the field.
Advantages of The Gun

Defenses Have To Account For the QB As A Runner
 Every Play Can Become An Option Play
 QB Has Easier Pre And Post Snap Reads
 QB Already Has Depth In The Pass Game
 Offense Can Read Rather Than Block A Defender In The
Run Game
 QB Works Downhill As Opposed To Uphill From Under C
 In Two Back Gun The D Must Account For 3 Backs and 3
Wideouts
 In One Back Gun The D Must Account For Two Backs
And Four Wides
 You get your athletes the football in open space
 Basketball on grass, with fast break potential
Advantages of the Gun

The gun puts linebackers on their heels
 The gun allows you to finesse your
opponents when you do not have an
overpowering line
 When you have an overpowering line, the
gun allows to be more versatile with the run
and pass
 The gun allows you to work downhill
 The gun gives your QB an increased field of
vision
Comparing The Gun To Being
Under Center
The defense loads the box!
Comparing Gun To Being
Under Center
In the spread gun, we open up
the box.
Statistically Speaking
 We
have averaged 6.2 yards a rush from
the gun over 4 years
 IS Zone from the gun: 6.7 yards w/ the TB
and 7.9 w/ the QB
 IS Zone under Center: 5.1 yards w/ the TB
and no direct QB run
 From the gun we average 7.1 yards per
play. Under Center: 6.3 and 5.3 per rush
The Gun is Versatile
 You
can run the gun from virtually any
offense
 You can be either pass dominated or run
dominated from the gun
 Nearly every personnel package can be
tailored to the gun
 You can use the gun as a change-up or as
a full-time offense
Incorporating The Gun Offense








You can use the gun as a change-up or as a system
You can run many plays from many different
offenses from the gun
Allows you to read defenders you couldn’t read from
under center
You can run a power based offense from the gun
You can run an option based offense from the gun
You can run a misdirection offense from the gun
You can throw the ball from the gun
You can add balance to your attack from the gun

Why Your QB Will Love The Gun!







He has a wider peripheral field of vision for presnap reads.
Every time he meshes with a back he will be
moving downhill.
Because he doesn’t have to go backwards to
give the ball he can see the defense and their
reaction.
Your QB will not trip over the centers foot.
Your QB will have more opportunities to carry
the football.
Your QB already has depth in the pass game.
Your QB will be able to see blitzes quicker and
throw hot.
Concepts Of The Gun Offense

and Special Formations

Skill Personnel In The Gun

QB: The Gun is versatile enough to allow you to
have an athletic quarterback, or a typical pocket
passer. We look for a tough kid at quarterback.
 TB: Our TB or (A) is our best back with vision and
some explosiveness. We don’t necessarily look
for speed at much as a burst and vision.
 H: Our H back is usually a combination
receiver/blocker. We will use our H in the
backfield in our two back gun so he has to be
athletic. He also must be able to block effectively
both in the open field and from the backfield. He
must be able to run routes and catch the football.
Skill Personnel In The Gun

Y: Our Y is our TE type. He must be able to block
and get into a three point stance. Our Y is our
best possession receiver. We look for our Y to be
great at finding open space.
 X: Our X is usually our fastest receiver and must
be a good route runner. He has to understand
how to read linebackers and safeties. Our X
receiver must know how to use his speed and
break routes off.
 Our Z receiver is usually our most physical
receiver. Our Z receivers are traditional 6-2 to 6-3
and 190 to 215 pounds. They are physical
blockers and aggressive route runners. They
must be able to find the sticks.
Personnel Packages

We will use personnel packages based on down and
distance.
 We want to be able to use our base personnel from each
of our formations, but we also make personnel changes
based on situations.
 If we don’t have an H who can do what we need from an
inside receiver, we will personnel change when we
switch from one back gun to two back gun.
 We try to limit specific personnel tendencies that will
dictate plays by who is in the game.
 We do everything we can to put our personnel in
situations where they will be successful.
 Everything we do out of the gun is based on the strength
of our personnel.

Motion Identification



Rip: Left IS or #2 Receiver Across The Formation
Liz: Right IS or #2 WR Across the Formation
Hump: FB to the TE
 Jump: FB away from the TE
 Tom: TE or #3 to the call
 Ted: TE or #3 away from the call
 Jet: Z across the formation
 Zip: Z Into the formation
 Zap: Z Away from the formation
 Away: TB away from the TE
 To: TB to the TE
 Adding RE to any motion puts the play in motion to
return to his starting point- Re-Rip, Re-Jet
 Adding slow to any motion slows the motion
How Do We Use Motion?






To gain a numerical advantage at the point of
attack
We want to clear a defender out of the point of
attack
We want to gain leverage on a defender
When a defense plays press coverage, we use
motion to help get the receiver a free release
We want to get the defense slanting one way
and come back the other
We want to see if the defense adjusts with
motion to gain an advantage to or away from the
motion.

 RB
Lines Up 1.5 to 2 Yards Behind QB,
With his crotch splitting the OS leg of the
guard.
 His eyes are straight ahead
 He is balanced, with his hands on his hips
 If his hands go to his knees, he goes to
the bench
 We have some flexibility to his alignment

Spread Gun Package Run Plays
 We
have several run plays that we can run
out of the gun.
 We can run every one of our I-Back and
One Back runs from the gun.
 We can run our option game from the gun.
 We also have gun specific run plays.
Packaging Our Run Plays







We have six types of run plays
One (Ace) Back Runs
Two Back Runs (With FB to Lead)
Option Runs (Specific Option Plays)
Read Plays (We will be reading a backside
defender)
QB Run Plays are designed to get your
quarterback the football.

One of the most valuable aspects of
the gun offense is the ability to get your
quarterback involved.
Whether the QB is reading the
defender, or the QB is running one of
the plays to the left, you force the
defense to have to account for him.
Getting the QB involved in the run
game will help to open up different
aspects of your pass game.
Huddle Procedure
 When
we huddle, the center calls the
huddle five yards from the football
 The offensive line is in front, with the skill
players in the back
 The TE is in the middle
 The FB is on his right, the TB is on his left
 The receivers flank the quarterback in the
huddle.
The Huddle
H Y A
G C G
Q
We moved the X and the Z to the front of the huddle
because we were having some communication
problems. Their original position are in red.
QB Pre-Snap Procedures In The
Spread Gun Offense
 The
QB looks left and looks right
 He is checking depth of corners and
number of safeties
 The QB makes his initial box read
checking for the inverts
 He makes any checks if the play must be
flipped or changed
 He begins his snap count
Concepts Of The Gun: Game
Planning Fronts, Stunts, and Blitzes






We chart defensive fronts and stunts
We chart blitz tendencies divided into three categories
1. ISLB Blitzes
2. OSLB/Corner Blitzes
3. Zone Blitzes
As we chart blitzes, we look at vacated pass zones and
potential loss opportunities
We look categorize blitzes into run/pass blitzes
We look at personnel blitzes and packages for blitzes to
find tendencies
We chart the corresponding coverage for each blitz
Game Planning For Coverage
 We
chart pass coverage for each down
and distance
 We look for coverage tendencies to
determine what route combinations we run
 We chart personnel changes for each
coverage
 We look at each coverage for weakness in
personnel or coverage areas
Game Planning Personnel
 We
chart their personnel packages
 We look at match-ups inside the box
 We look at match-ups outside the box
 We determine their strengths and
weaknesses of personnel
 We evaluate defensive match-ups for
potential mismatches
 We look at personnel adjustments to get
our speed against their lack of speed
Game Planning: Self Scout
 We
do a cumulative tendency report on
ourselves each week
 We try to break tendencies to eliminate
predictability
 We break down ourselves as thoroughly
as we break down our opponents
 We key on our P down, 1st down, and 3rd
down tendencies
 We look at our own personnel tendencies
Practice Planning
 We
break our practice into 24 periods of
five minutes each
 We have an individual component, a group
component, and a team component
 We use our athletic period for specials and
our weight room work
 We break down different facets of the
game plan based on the day
Practice Planning
 We
install our coming out and first down
package on Monday, and go over any new
plays or blocking adjustments
 Tuesday we install our 3rd down
component and our blitz protection
schemes
 Wednesday we go over our goal line and
red zone package. We also introduce any
special plays for the week. We go full
scrimmage with the defense on Weds.
Practice Planning
 Thursday
is our pre-game day for Friday
games, where we will run our two-minute
package, run-the clock package, and our
special plays. We will review the entire
game plan. We practice for 90 minutes on
our pre game day.
 If we have a Saturday game, we will use
Thursday to review our special plays and
go over our 1st down and 3rd down
packages.
 We also incorporate our Big Play Plan for
change of possession
Must Haves






We work our mesh drill everyday
We work an o-line blitz period with the backs
everyday
We work our hot routes everyday of practice and
through our summer passing league
We work a 5 minute option period every day
We work scramble rules for 5 minutes, two days
a week
We practice 2 hours each day, with the
exception of Wednesday, when we go 2.5 hours

Advantages of Installing a No Huddle System






You get more reps in the same amount of time
during practice
You make it more difficult for the defense to
substitute
You force the defense to play at a pace they do
not practice
Other teams can not emulate your no huddle in
practice
You can “read” the defense to call best play
Allows you to have a built in check system
making it easier to audible
Advantages of Installing a No Huddle System
 Can
be used as a change-up or as a
system
 You can easily incorporate calls into any
offense to add No Huddle Capability
 Include a No-Huddle component to your
practice plan
 Be sure to practice each mode of your NoHuddle and Clock Management situations
Concepts of The Gun Offense:
Installing A No Huddle Offense
 We
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
break our offense into five speeds
Normal
Look Mode
Go Mode
Two-Minute
Run The Clock
Normal Huddle
 This
is our base offensive mode
 We are going to huddle and call each play
in the huddle
 We will check at the line
 We will focus on hustling in and out of the
huddle
Look Mode
 Look
mode is a no huddle mode
 Our players will hustle to the ball as the
QB calls out formation
 The QB will get up and get set
 The coaches in the booth will look over the
defense
 The QB relay the play call
Go Mode
 The
Go mode is used when we want to
hustle to the line and run a play
 We game plan for five plays we will run
from the go mode
 We will use the go mode to keep the
defense from stemming during our look
mode
 We eliminate chances for the defense to
substitute
Run The Clock
 We
use this mode to burn the clock when
we are leading
 We may be at the end of the half and we
don’t want our opponents another
possession
 We are trying to slow down our opponents
Two Minute Mode
 We
are trying to get the ball down the field
quickly
 We will spike the ball if the clock is running
on second down
 We will sprint to the ball and get set
 We limit use of motions and formation
changes
 We will limit our checks at the line
Using A No Huddle Offense
 You
can use no huddle as a change-up
 You DO NOT need to use the no huddle
as a hurry up
 You force the defense out of their comfort
zone
 You can limit what the defense can do
 You can include as many plays or as few
plays as you want in your package
Automatic Calls
 We
can call an automatic to run from the
line
 We call the automatic instead of our
formation
 We get to the line and run the play
 This offsets defenses who will stem when
you are in look mode
Example of a Play Call
 The
play ends and we start calling Texas
for the formation
 The QB calls 542, 542
 The five tells the line we are reading the
backside 5 tech
 The 4 means we will mesh with the 4 back
 The 2 is the hole we will attack
 Texas is trips open, then 942 is 42 Inside
Read
Example of a Go Call
 The
QB will call the formation which might
be Alamo, Alamo
 As we work to the line he calls Quaker,
Quaker
 Tennessee is our trap read
 The QB will get set as if he were looking
over the defense
 Then, we will snap the ball and run trap
read

QB Footwork And The Mesh
 If
The back is crossing the QB, the QB will
take a flat step toward the back. We call
this Flat Step, Short Step.
 He reaches the ball deep and feels the
belly of the back, snapping his eyes to his
read.
 He rides the back through while making
his read.
 “Squeeze and Chase, Pull and Replace”
QB Footwork And The Mesh
RB Footwork And The Mesh
 The
back aligns 1.5 to 2 yards behind the
QB, straddling the outside leg of the
guard.
 If the back is crossing the QB, he will take
a step opposite the QB, then get downhill.
 He must make a deep pocket, with the top
palm up.
 The back must feel the QB read, and not
snatch at the football.
Same Side Mesh/Backside Mesh
 When
we mesh on the side away from the
point-of-attack we call this a backside
mesh.
 With a backside mesh we are usually
reading a backside defender.
 When we mesh on the same side we are
meshing with the back to the POA side.
 We are usually reading a front side
defender or eliminating the read.
Reading The Backside 5
 This
is the whole concept that began our
craze with the gun offense
 The offense does not have to block a
backside player
 This allows us to get one more lineman to
the second level
 Allows us to put 5 techniques in conflict
Why Read The Backside 5?






We get one more blocker to the second level
We allow the offense to always give the ball to
the right player
We put the 5 technique in conflict, and 5
techniques tend to be very good players
We allow the 5 tech to see several different
looks
The defensive line must practice facing multiple
looks
We give ourselves a chance to be successful
against a stud by having him take himself out of
the game
Main Gun Concept: Read The Five

 On

SQUEEZE AND CHASE, PULL
AND REPLACE
 If
the 5 technique squeezes and chases,
pull and replace
 If he does anything else, give the football
 If the 5 tech slow plays, give the football
 If the 5 tech comes upfield, give the
football
 If the 5 tech comes at the QB, give the
football
Read the Backside 5 Technique
The main concept that started the whole phenomenon with the gun is the ability of
quarterbacks to read the backside 5 technique. The QB will read the backside 5
technique. This allows the backside tackle to work up to the second and third
level. Under center, the quarterback is not able to read the backside 5 technique,
he is working uphill. From the gun, the QB can read the backside 5 tech and use
his rule.
QB’s Rule: Squeeze and Chase, pull and replace.
If the 5 technique squeezes the tackle’s release and chases the back the
quarterback is meshing with, the QB will pull the football and replace the 5
technique. This is a way of reminding the QB to get downhill. If the 5 tech does
anything else, the QB gives the ball and carries out a downhill run fake to hold the
pursuit. We drill this with our MESH DRILL. The QB’s and running backs work
together getting their mesh down, while the QB reads the 5 tech.. We vary how
the 5 technique plays in each situation as we drill the mesh and read.
Mesh Drill
DE
C
If the DE squeezes and chases, the QB
will pull the ball and replace the DE. We
want the QB to get downhill.
If the DE sits at home, or goes upfield,
the QB will give the ball and continue a
downhill run fake.

This is a great view of the quarterback’s footwork on the
mesh. You can see the angle of his feet allowing the
back to cross in front.
Reading the Backside 5 Tech

When we read the backside 5 tech, the back will
align opposite the call side. The back will step
opposite the QB and mesh, as per his opposite
side mesh rules.
 We can run virtually all of our offensive run plays
reading the backside 5 technique
 Allows us to account for a defender with a read,
allowing us to block one more second level
defender
 We put good defensive ends in conflict

Play Calling To Read The Backside 5 Tech
 Play
is called using 2 numbers and a tag
 The first number is the ball carrier getting
the football or meshing with the QB
 The second number is the hole assigned
the play
 The tag tells the line what blocking
scheme they will execute
 Try to keep your no huddle somewhat
consistent
Examples

o
Inside Lead Read
The 4 back will mesh with the QB
The aiming point is the 2 hole
Inside Lead tells the line they will execute

Lead tells the H we will be leading the
tailback
Read tells the line they are leaving the
backside 5 technique
Examples
 36
Counter Read
o The 3 back will mesh with the QB
o The 6 hole is our point of attack
o The line will execute counter blocking
o The line will leave the backside 5 go
 The great thing about the gun is we can
get the ball to multiple backs in different
situations
Same Side Mesh
 If
the QB is meshing with the back on the
same side as the call, his footwork will be
similar to inside veer. He will take a short
step, then get up in. We want a short step
to the back, then the opposite foot working
downhill on the Mesh.
 The back will step to the QB, then
downhill. He must try to keep his
shoulder’s square.
Meshing On The Play Side






We started meshing on the play side because
we would get the line slanting away from the
back
The first play we put in was base dive
We did not read the front side 5 technique on
base dive
We then added inside veer where we read the 5
technique on the play side
We then added outside veer from the gun to the
TE side, then later to the open side
We can run virtually any play meshing to the
play side
Same Side Mesh

QB steps at 3:00 with his mesh side foot and brings his
inside foot to parallel.
 His eyes must snap to his read
 TB steps toward the QB, keeping his shoulders square.
 In the case above, the TB would step to the QB with his
left foot and make his soft pocket
Why Mesh To The Call Side?
 The
defense will overplay away from the
mesh
 We can get the ball downhill quickly
 We give the back a chance for the cutback
 The play becomes a downhill play similar
to IS Veer
 We can run IS and OS Veer
 We can put the defense in conflict from
what they practiced
Mesh Drill
 We
run our mesh drill with our
quarterbacks and running backs every
day.
 We run active mesh at least two days a
week where we add our offensive tackles
and tight ends
 We have an inside run period with 5
minutes designated for our read game
Keys To A Good Mesh
 The
QB must secure the snap first!
 The QB MUST get his eyes to his read
 The RB must make a deep soft pocket
 The RB must be patient, don’t rush
 The Tackle must reduce his shoulder to
avoid allowing the DE to collision him
down the line
 The QB must be soft with the football
Coaching Points On The Mesh
 The
quarterback and running back do not
need to fight over the football
 The QB makes the decision, not the RB
 RB keeps his top palm up and out
 QB must be soft with the football
 Coach the QB on his eyes

Inside Zone Read Play



The inside read play is our number one play
from the gun
This is the first play we installed from the gun
We use our zone blocking system for this play
Based on game planning decision, we will use
zone combinations and or fold blocks to get
movement
We read the backside 5 or #3 defender
The TB reads Will To Mac To Go
Inside Zone Rules


Our offensive line rules begin with the playside gap
Our landmark is the playside jersey number of the
defensive lineman
 We want to dent the line of scrimmage and get movement
 Our offensive line takes a six inch zone step to the play
side at a 45 degree angle, depending on the technique of
the defensive lineman
 On our first step, our offensive lineman will grab their guns
(This term tells our lineman to get their hands cocked)
 The second step is through the crotch of the defender
 The offensive lineman is trying to punch through the
playside jersey number
 We keep our feet moving to get our head across the
midpoint of the defender
 We must keep our feet moving to get to the playside
Inside Zone Problems and
Corrections





Offensive lineman will start to just wash the
defender down instead of getting movement
If the offensive lineman doesn’t move his feet,
he will not be able to get to his landmark and get
movement
The offensive lineman must get four eyes to
backer to be able to pick up blitzes and stunts
The offensive lineman must be very quick with
the first two steps

Inside Zone Read
 Offensive
line will use the playside jersey
number as their landmark
 Offensive line will get a vertical push
 We fight to get to our landmark without

Offensive Line Calls

Communication is of utmost importance in a gun
offense
The offensive line must work together to make
sure we account for the box defenders
Our offensive line must identify the Ohio on
every play, then the one, two, and if there is a
tight end, the three
In our zone blocking scheme we are working our
Playside Zone Combinations
We have an uncovered lineman and an
uncovered lineman working together
They are tracking the down defensive lineman to
linebacker
Offensive Line Calls

Our line calls work from playside to backside on the
zone read
If the center and right guard work together, we call
Arizona
The Center and Left Guard working together is Alaska
A guard and tackle working together is Deuce or David
The tackle and tight end working together is Trey, Titan
We work our line calls until they no longer have to
communicate, but we still communicate our calls
We also have dummy calls put in by our line coach
Covered/Uncovered Zone Concept
M
M
T
This is an example of an
Arizona call on 42 IS Read.
The RG is covered with a 3
tech, and the Center is
uncovered with a man over.
The RG and Center take
their playside zone step
with eyes to their gap.
T
The uncovered player must
have his eyes in his PSG.
In the case above, the 3
Tech slanted inside and the
Center has to pick him up.
The RG sees him go away
and now works to the player
filling the B gap.
If the Mac were to step up to blitz, the Center would make a base call. This
would eliminate the Arizona call and put both lineman on a base block.

This is a two-on-two drill
working two offensive
lineman vs. a defensive
lineman and a backer. This
is a generic drill where we
will put guards with tackles
and centers with guards.
We want this to be a game
speed drill once the initial
teaching is done.
You must work against twists
and loops
T
T
E
This is our three on three drill we do a lot
because of stacked fronts. We get head up
tackles that will slant. We work this drill
with the frontside, then the backside. We
get our eyes up and this teaches the kids to
be able to work an inside threat. We teach
patience in this drill and we follow a very
strict rule, “Don’t Chase Backers.”

Squeeze Scrape
 Teams
inevitably will try to confuse your

quarterbacks can recognize when this is
occurring.

These are fast flowing zones and the great thing is you can run IS or
OS zone with the same blocking. On IS zone, our landmark is the
defenders playside number and on OS zone, our landmark is his
playside bicep. We call this hustle and flow. Also, try running a
designed keep with the QB where your line zone blocks left, and your
QB rides the back as if the play is going right. Even with the line
zoning left, the D will flow with the back action and you can wall it off
for your QB.
Using Zone Combinations

Zone Combinations are used to create
movement
We are going to use our HIPPO concept
Hippo tells our offensive lineman to get hip to hip
Our offensive lineman are going to block a down
guy tracking to backer
We place our helmet to the near ear of the down
defender
We flat step to get hippo
We drive vertical
Our HIPPO Concept





We also use zone combinations with our
lineman getting hip to hip
Offensive Linemen will drive the defensive
lineman into the linebacker
The direction the linebacker goes will determine
which lineman accounts for the backer
Our landmark is the near ear/near number of the
down defender
We teach the offensive lineman to get four eyes
to backer
Teaching a Near Ear Vertical Push






Offensive lineman will take a flat step to the near
number
On the flat step the offensive lineman will cock
their hands
The second step is a vertical step and punch the
near number of the down defender
We call this Flat Step, L Step
We drive the down guy into the linebacker
We DO NOT chase backers

Strong Safety, he becomes a non-factor. We can double team the PSDT and use fast
zone footwork with the center and BSG to account for the Nose and the Will. We do tell

Throwing Hot





One way to account for blitzing defenders is to
use hot reads
Quarterbacks and Receivers must communicate
Receivers will alert the QB of blitz possibility, QB
will then acknowledge if the receiver will be hot
or stay in his called route
QB must communicate to OL if we will have a
hot defender
You must work your hot reads in the spring and
summer

If the Mac is going to blitz, the Y becomes the hot read
The Y will say “alert, alert.” If the QB checks the number of the
blitzer, the Y will take his hot route into the vacated blitzer’s area
The QB checks the code for the blitzer to let the O-Line know they
don’t have to account for the blitzer
In the case above, we would not have to throw hot if the Mac
showed blitz.

The Mac and Will are showing blitz so the Y and X are checking

The QB will check back because we can’t account for both blitzers
unless we keep the back in
The H can become the hot vs a 3 shell. Against a two shell, we
want the X to be hot
We have the X hot above because his route takes him to the hot
zone
Slide Protection Schems
 Slide
Protection is a 6 man protection by
definition
 Offensive line will slide to the call
 Back will protect backside edge
 Back and tackle must communicate
whether back reads inside out or outside
in
*You can put the back frontside, with the
Oline sliding backside*

Intermediate Pass Game
 Our
intermediate pass game uses our
Blue (Big-on-Big) Protection
 Each combination has a front-side read
and a back side read
 The QB will make a pre-snap read to
determine which half of the field he will
throw
 If the read side isn’t open, we run to our
read. We do NOT go to the other side
Route Rules
 Frontside
runs the combo called based on
coverage
 #3 runs vertical
 # 4 (in empty set) runs vertical
 Backside runs a scat route
 Back runs a backside swing in combo with
the scat route from the receiver in Blue 5
 We can use tags to change routes or
alerts
Teaching The Concept of Space

Running the Curl Flat Combo







We are going to read the #2 or flat defender to
the call side
This can be run to the strong or weak side of our
formation
#1 runs the curl, #2 runs the flat
The curl must press the technique vertical
We think “Vertical-Post-Break”
Flat Route aims for outside shoulder of the
corner
If #2 sinks, throw the flat- If #2 widens, throw the
curl







Scat Routes are traditionally backside two man
games with the back and #1
#1 takes and inside release at a 45 degree
angle and reads the LB
If the LB widens, break inside of him
If the LB sits, you sit, be ready to block
The back is running a swing with depth
#1 wants to establish line-of-sight with the QB
#1 works behind the LB unless the LB drops with
depth
