ASTEROID MINING:
The Raw Material for Going to Mars
and the Stars – Now and Forever
KESE, LLC GOALS
1. Using the KIS principle (Keep It Simple), send
an automated asteroid mining system out to
an asteroid asap, and return a few metric tons
of regolith as “proof of intent” and “proof of
concept” back to LEO.
2. Use only proven technologies and simplest
possible approach: Go out there, dig the
maximum you can carry as fast as you can, and
come back with tons of usable base-material.
3. Return only a couple of loads to Earth surface –
Keep the majority in orbit for manufacturing.
THE PLAN:
GET BUILDING
MATERIALS FOR BAEM-Ex
1. The Cornucopia AMS lands
on the target asteroid and
mines several tons of raw
regolith using 4 post-hole
diggers
2. The Return Vehicles bring
the raw regolith back to
Earth Orbit
3. The regolith is processed
in orbit, and using a 3D
printer, manufactures all
the parts needed to make
the BAEM-Ex
ULTIMATE KESE, LLC GOAL:
The Buzz Aldrin Earth/Mars-Express
Build one or more “Buzz Aldrin Earth-Mars
Express” (BAEM-Ex) in LEO, giving colonists and
scientists a permanent way to go back and forth
to Mars via the Buzz Aldrin Cycler orbit.
The Buzz Aldrin Earth/Mars-Express
• Two BAEM-Ex shuttles would provide for much shorter
Earth/Mars/Earth round-trips, or doubled capacity for
commercial and scientific exchanges between Earth and Mars.
• The second Buzz Aldrin BAEM-Ex Cycler could be built directly
from one of Mars’ “Moons”, which are captured asteroids
The Buzz Aldrin Earth/Mars-Express:
Earth to BAEM-Ex and Mars to BAEM-Ex Shuttles/Taxi
• Manned Mars Missions will be able to use
simple shuttles, CEV or Mars-taxi to
rendez-vous with the BAEM-Ex
as it passes by Earth or Mars.
ULTIMATE KESE, LLC GOAL:
Build (or just provide materials for) an in-orbit
permanent “Space Odysey 2001-type” rotating
space station that would give spin-gravity ~1 G to
the living quarters for permanent human
habitation, and zero-g at the Hub for science
experiments and docking.
