1. I was born in Sussex in 1954
2. I did very badly at school
3. I failed my 11 plus and went
to Secondary Modern School
4. I remember a teacher bawling
me out for doing a story in a
way she hadn't ordered
5. I eventually got job as a
journalist with the local
newspaper
6. I had decided that I really
wanted to write and that no
other career would do.

2. Then I got on with writing
my first book
3. For the next fifteen
years, I wrote on and off,
4. When I was 30 I moved
to Inner-city Bristol
