L.O: To know what the five pillars of Islam are.
What do we mean by pillars?
• A pillar is something which supports a building, and stops it falling down.
• What do you think the Pillars of Islam are? • The 5 Pillars of Islam are 5 things which a Muslim would do to show they were committed to the religion of Islam
The Five Pillars of Islam
• Islam has five basic duties which Muslims must perform. These are called the five pillars of Islam.
• What duties do Christians have?

Shahadah (Belief in Allah) Salah (Prayer) Zakah (Giving to charity) Sawm (Fasting) Hajj (Pilgrimage) A declaration of faith in Allah that Muslims remember all the time Saying prayers to Allah five times a day Giving 2.5% of their income each year to support the poor Not eating during daylight hours for the month of Ramadan A journey to Makkah that Muslims should undertake at least once in their lives

• Summarise what each pillar of Islam is.
