IMPORTANT!!!!
Math 110 is a Terminal Course
IT IS NOT a prerequisite for any other math class!
If your major requires Math 112 or higher,
you DO NOT belong in MATH 110.
If you think that you MIGHT change to a major
requiring MATH 112 or higher, you should consider
the possibility of taking a math other than MATH 110.
I’ll be glad to talk with you about this if you have
questions or concerns.

Calculator
For this course, you MUST have THIS particular calculator:
Casio fx-260Solar School edition
Although you will also have access
to the computer calculator, there
are certain things that we cover
that the computer calculator will
not be able to do…so PLEASE get
this exact calculator.
Using a different hand-held
calculator on a test will be
treated as academic misconduct.
Access Codes
Every student must have a MyLabsPlus access code.
The code comes packaged with the textbook or may be
purchased separately from within the course software.
Either way, the code gives you access to an
online textbook, video lectures, examples of
assignments and many more useful tools to
help you be successful in this course.
There is a temporary code (good for 21 days)
available in your course software.
It is, of course better to have your own code
from the beginning, but you MUST have your
own code by the end of 21 days.
Course Grades
Grades will be assigned in this course.
Possible grades in this course are A, B, C (+/-) or NC.
A grade of NC means you receive no credit for the
course. If you receive an NC, you must take the
course again, but it does not affect your GPA.
The last day to withdraw from the course is Wednesday,
10/29. No withdrawals will be given after this date.

Students must earn a minimum of 70% to
successfully pass this course.
Class & Lab Attendance
Class meetings will be every Monday and Wednesday, 4-4:50 PM.
Class participation is recorded.
-Attention and participation are required
-No cell phones or laptops out during class
-You must attend the entire class for credit
This is a 3-credit hour course.
The class meets 2 hours each week but for
the 3rd hour you are required to spend at least 60
minutes per week doing math work in the MTLC.
-You must swipe ACTion card in AND out for MTLC time credit.
-You may use the MTLC any time it is open.
(You are never required to be there at a particular time.)

Common Rules for the MTLC
• The MTLC is a Math classroom. Be courteous
and considerate of fellow students.
• Do not hesitate to ask questions if you need
help. The instructors and tutors in the MTLC
are there to help you.
• You should be doing math work only.
• No food, drinks, tobacco products ,cell phone
use, loud music, profanity, or companions.
Homework
There are 20 graded homework assignments for
the semester (mostly one per section) with deadlines
shown both in the syllabus and in the software.
 You may save, close, and return to complete the
assignment later—up to the deadline.
 Homework exercises may be worked and reworked
as many times as desired. Just click on
’Similar Exercise’ to get a replacement exercise.
 Your 3 lowest homework grades will automatically
be dropped at end of semester and the average of
the remaining homework grades will count for
13% of your final grade.
Quizzes
 There is a graded quiz for each section (21 total).
 Do not click the ’Submit’ button until you have
completed the entire quiz.
 You have Unlimited attempts on each quiz. Only your
highest score will be used in the course grade calculation.
 You can review your quiz only immediately after
submitting. You can receive no help during a quiz,
but may get help, if needed, afterwards.
 Your 3 lowest quiz grades will automatically be
dropped at end of semester.
 The average of your remaining quiz grades will count
for 15% of final grade.
Study Plan
 Your study plan is a very good review before each test.
 Your quiz performance informs your study plan…so,
work on your study plan section only after completing
the homework and quiz for that section.
 Your study plan is unique to you based on your
quiz performance.
 Your study plan is due by 5pm on December 12
(the last day of exams).
 Your study plan is worth 10% of your final grade.
Test Deadlines
Math 110 test days will be on TUESDAY
of the designated ‘test week’ but
you choose what time to take the test.
Test 1: Tuesday, September 16th
Test 2: Tuesday, October 7th
Test 3: Mon Oct. 27th through Wed Oct. 29th*
Test 4: Tuesday, November 18th
*Test 3 is during the short Fall break week so you will be
able to choose any day Mon-Wed for your 3rd test only.
Optional Final Exam: Sunday – Friday, Dec. 8 – Dec. 12
(You’ll register separately for the Final, choosing day & time.)
Missed work Policy
Missed homework or quiz deadline
Your score for an incomplete homework or quiz is just
the score earned on it when the deadline arrives.
Your score for a homework or quiz not started before the
deadline is 0.
But remember that your 3 low scores will be dropped.
Missed test
If a test is missed FOR ANY REASON, the zero score will be
considered your lowest and will be replaced by the final
exam score. Please be aware that only one exam score will
be replaced.
If you will miss any assignments due to official University
business, you must make arrangements beforehand.
Replacement Policy
 The Math 110 Final Exam
is NOT REQUIRED.
 You have the option to take a
Comprehensive Final Exam and have that
score replace the lowest test score.
 However, zero test grades due to academic
misconduct will not be replaced.
Working at Home
Students can work in the software from home.
 To do so, use the MyMathLab Browser Check in the
software and install all necessary plug-ins
(one time only).
 The software MAY NOT WORK appropriately with the
Safari Browser. FireFox (Mozilla) is probably the best
browser to use.
 If you receive an error message indicating that your
session has expired or you have “timed out” please clear
your browser history, try a different browser, or restart
your computer.
Working at Home
Homework and quizzes may be completed at home.
Work well ahead of deadlines to be safe.
If you have any trouble, come to the MTLC
right away to complete your assignments on
time.
Deadlines will not be extended because of
home computer/Internet issues.
Tests must be completed in the MTLC.
Disability Accommodations
 Accommodations must be set up through
the UA Office of Disability Services (ODS)

instructor or directly to the MTLC.
 Do this as soon as possible.
 This must be done each semester.

Software Log In Information
Registration in the software has already been done
for you. Detailed descriptions of the 2 log in options
can be found the in syllabus, at the top of page 2.
Log in option 1:
-Go to www.ua.mylabsplus.com
with Username = crimson email prefix (ex: jksmith)
and Password = CWID (ex: 12345678)
Log in option 2:
-Log into myBama, click ‘Blackboard’ and then
go into your MATH 110-009 Blackboard Learn course.
You will need your MyLabsPlus access code in order to get to
the math content for the first time in the software.
Before our next class (if you
haven’t already done so)…
 Get an access code (or be prepared to buy it with a
credit/debit card through the software)
 Log into software (even if you don’t have your code yet.)

 Take the Syllabus Quiz
 Use your syllabus during the quiz!

 Retake it if necessary to get 100%!
Unlimited number of attempts prior to the deadline.
 Get a notebook – for class notes and assignment work.
Final thoughts
Make the commitment now to do what it takes to be
successful in this course:
 Attend class and the MTLC regularly
 Complete every assignment on or ahead of schedule
 Stay on schedule (Allow plenty of time to do your best!)
 Get help when you need it – MTLC Staff and CAS Staff
