Rationale for Cervical Cancer Screening
 Abnormal Pap smears are more than 4 times
higher in HIV-infected women
 HIV-infected women have a higher prevalence of
HPV infection
 HIV-infected women are 5 times more likely to
develop squamous intraepithelial lesions (SIL)
 Invasive cervical cancer is an AIDS defining
illness
