• Children need to confidently count on and
back from any given number.
• They need to be able to do this in ones
(units).
• They need to be able to do this in tens.

• It is useful for your child to learn number
bonds.
• In year 1 they should know their number
bonds to 10, using them in a variety of
ways
• In year 2 they should know their number
bonds to 20, using them in a variety of
ways
