CMS Contract
• Each student signs a contract with
his/her parents, faculty and
administration committing to:
– Complete a challenging curriculum of
Honor-level courses with a minimum of
four Advanced Placements courses
– Complete a summer reading list each
year
– Complete a minimum of Four Years of
Science
– Complete a senior thesis that requires
collaborative study/research with a
professional mentor, and the oral
defense of the thesis; and
– Complete a 100-hour community service
requirement during high school.

• A year-long research project with
the guidance and direction of our
faculty and a mentor (a
professional in the field of
interest).

independent research in the field
of student’s choice.

Advanced Placement
Courses
• AP courses offer the opportunity to earn college
credit while in high school. Juniors and seniors will
often take as many as 5 AP courses. This is an

Engineering
• The program offers students in-depth,
hands-on knowledge of engineering
and technology-based careers. The
three-tiered approach to learning

Admission
Requirements
• Students must be residents of
Rutherford County and complete a
CMS application.
• Students are required to have at least a
3.0 GPA and minimum scores at least
at the 80th percentile in two of the areas
tested by the TCAP each of the two
years prior to application.

• Students will receive points in each of
the following areas:
– GPA
– TCAP Testing
– Explore Testing for incoming high
school students
• The students will be accepted in
order of their cumulative scores

Admissions
• If a student does not have TCAP scores, the
student must submit scores from a test that
reports national norms. (Examples include
but are not limited to the IOWA Aptitude
Test, Stanford Achievement Test, OtisLennon School Ability Test, Woodcock
Johnson Achievement Test, etc.)The
students will be accepted in order of their
cumulative scores

Waiting List
• Students that qualify but are not
accepted will be placed on a waiting
list. The waiting list will be in order of
their scores. The waiting list will only
be for the 2013-2014 school year.
Students not accepted must apply
each year.

Appeals
• If you feel that any required data does
not reflect your child’s academic ability,
you may appeal. Please, include a
letter explaining the extraordinary
situation that caused the discrepancy.

Application Process
• December 1 – Applications available
• February 2– Applications deadline
• Letters will be mailed at the earliest date
possible. Parents will have two weeks to
accept or reject the placement.
