KS2 Assembly – Spanish Culture The Valencia Region celebrates its fiesta on October 9, in commemoration of the entrance of King Jaime I in the city of Valencia, which took place in 1238.
Valencia was reconquered by the Christian army of King Jaime I, after over 5 centuries of Islamic rule.

Día de la Hispanidad
La Hispanidad is the national day of Spain.
It is held annually on October 12 and is a national holiday which commemorates the exact date of 1492 when Christopher Columbus first set a foot in America.
KS2 Assembly – Spanish Culture To commemorate it, there is a parade led by the military, usually held in Madrid.
KS2 Assembly – Spanish Culture The parade is presided by the Spanish King, who is the Head of State, since Spain is politically organized as a constitutional monarchy. The Presidente del Gobierno has also a special role in the ceremony, only second to the King.
