• STUDY the information online
- Procedures of application? Eligibility for different programmes?
• RESEARCH on host university…
-Semester Academic Calendar
-Course availability
-Language
-Semester Load
• PLAN…
-Clearing pre-requisites
-Doing IA/IO
Take note especially for…
AERO students
• Take note that a number of AE courses are
offered only in selected semesters
o Example: MA3700 Aircraft Structures I, MA3701 Aerodynamics, MA3702
Aircraft Propulsion, MA3703 Flight Dynamics, MA3704 Aircraft Electrical
Devices, MA4701 Aircraft Design, MA4702 Aircraft Structures II, MA4704
Aeroelasticity, MA4705 Aircraft Navigation and Flight Computer…
• Always remember to plan carefully!!
Timeline
• Students are to watch out for schedule clashes
with attachment programmes, GEM Discoverer,
national service obligations etc.

• Advisable not to take course with more than 40%
CA, examples like MA2005, MA3001, if you are
returning later than 2 weeks
Returning to NTU late…Short Term LOA
• Please take the responsibility to inform your
course coordinators, and follow lectures on
NTULearn.
• Request for make-up CAs will be decided by the
respective course coordinators
• Email [email protected] if you encounter
course registration issues
Returning to NTU late…Semester LOA
• German Universities like TUM, Duisburg-Essen,
where last paper could be end of Mar/Sep.
• Do not join in the semester if you are returning
later than 4th weeks of semester.

Course Matching – Credit
Transfer
• All students will read and transfer a maximum of 21
AUs of courses (including laboratory courses)
• A maximum of 24 AUs of courses (including
laboratory courses) – is granted only for
ABP/DDP/IP students.
Course Matching – Credit
Transfer
• The minimum grade to be counted for credit (AU)
transfer has to be equitable to a Pass grade at the
host university.
•
All Pass and Fail grades will be reflected in Degree
Audits and transcripts.
Qn:
National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, Passing grade=60 and above
but NTU’s 40 and above (for a ‘D’). Will the course be transferred as
‘Pass’ if I get 55 in NCKU?
Ans= No. (refer above)
Eg, Common
Have a breather…
• Before we move on to how
to do course matching….
Sharing Session…
by our seniors
How to do course
matching?
The decision to approve/reject each course matching is not
restricted to, but is largely based on the following factors:
1. match in content (approximately 75% match)
2. number of contact hours
3. the course must have some form of assessment (e.g.
tests, projects, exam etc)
Match in Content
• 1. Firstly, refer to our MAE’s website for the brief
course content
• 2. Secondly, refer to the host university’s course
catalogue
• 3. Lastly, you can also refer to CourseFinder for past
history course matching’s approval.
**Note that not all approved course matchings found in the
CourseFinder will be approved again as we are constantly
reviewing our curriculum.
Example:
•
MAE’s MA3005 Control Theory
[Pre-requisite: Having read MA2006; Academic Unit: 3.0]
Content: Introduction and Revision of Laplace Transform, System Responses transient and steady, PID Controls, Root Locus Technique, Frequency Response
Methods.
•
Strathsclyde’s 16318 Dynamics and Control
Introduction to control systems.
Measurement and Models of systems. Physical principles of measuring
devices and modelling of physical systems using differential equations, linear
approximations, state variable models.
Laplace transforms, Block diagrams and transfer functions.
The performance of feedback control systems.
The stability of linear feedback systems.
The root locus method.
How to do course matching?
3-AU
course
(w/o lab)
39hrs of
contact
hours
• For a UE with contact hours <39 hrs, the AUs
granted may be reduced.
For UE with contact hours >39 hrs, the maximum
number of AU granted remains as 3 AUs.
Course matching – Pre-requisites
• NOT allowed to read any pre-requisite concurrently
with another course that requires a pass in this prerequisite.
• Example, Courses as such:
MA2007
Thermodynamics
MA3003 Heat
Transfer
MA3006 Fluid
Mechanics
MA4002 Fluid
Dynamics
MA2003 Intro to
Thermo-Fluids
Course matching – Pre-requisites
• A pre-requisite may be read concurrently with
the immediate downstream course only if this
pre-requisite is classified as a "read-only" prerequisite instead of having necessary to pass.
Course matching – Major PE
• Students who attend an overseas semester can read
any Major PE, regardless of the offering semester in
MAE. (refer to MA48XX courses in the course content
page)
• ME students who read the Aeronautical Engineering
specialisation may read any Major PE offered to AE
students, provided all necessary pre-requisites are
met.
• AERO Major PEs
How to do course matching?
ME:
MA2071/MA3071
AERO:
MA2072/MA3072
(1AU lab course)
39hrs of lab
• A maximum of 1 laboratory course is allowed for
credit transfer.
• Lab components may be considered for
mapping lab course. Only 1 lab course matching
is required in the course matching system.
Lab Course Matching
• Total lab hours =
no. of lab sessions X no. of lab hours per session
GER-Core Matching

cohesion and total defence ; Engineering practice in
Singapore; Engineering ethics; Our neighbours and
international; Challenges of globalization and the new
economy; Contribution of engineers in the new

society concerns, history, cultural values or
ethics issues etc…

Course matching – Others
• Students are discouraged from reading courses that
are pitched at the postgraduate level.
Course matching – Minor Programmes
• Seek prior approval (by written endorsement or
email) from the School offering the Minor.
• MAE Exchange Coordinators should be kept in the
loop during any related correspondence.
Course matching – Others
• Rejected course matchings should not be deleted as
such records in the CourseFinder database will be
useful for any future reference.
IMPORTANT!!!
CAs/Examinations
• All examinations (main, supplementary or
otherwise) for courses offered by the host
university will have to be taken at the host
university, not in NTU.
• Requests/ Appeals to sit for host university’s
exams in NTU will not be entertained.
CAs/Examinations
• Early Examination Request at the host university or
any other special requests must be fully justified
and are subject to approval by the host university
and NTU.
IMPORTANT!!!
CAs/Examinations
• Transcripts must indicate all courses that have
been read, including any failed courses.
• If you fail the course, you will have to retake the
course in NTU. Request to re-sit host university’s
paper in NTU will not be entertained.
Returning to NTU – Credit Transfer
• Students who receive late transcripts from their host
university should submit a softcopy of the transcript to
the School the soonest possible and to bring the
original for verification
• Credit transfer requires a considerable amount of
time and effort - we seek the patience and
understanding from students.
• For credit transfer matters, please contact Ms Tiana
([email protected]) from MAE UG office to assist
you.
Returning to NTU – Course Registration
• If you have taken a pre-requisite course during
exchange, your credit transfer will not be on time
for your course registration in NTU.
Example: Read MA3001 Machine Element Design
oversea and intend to read MA4001 Engineering Design in
the coming semester,
please email [email protected] stating the
courses you want to read and the pre-requisites
which you have completed overseas before
course registration period.
Miscellaneous
• Look out for MAE’s declaration email to acknowledge
our rules and regulations.
