Classification Code (NEC)
– Entry Series: Personnel who are not designated
as strikers but have either the aptitude or the
training for an appropriate rating (E-3 and
below).
– Rating Series: Supplement the general and
service ratings (subspecialty in rating).
» Example: HM1 with experience in
preparation and maintenance of eyeglasses
has a rating series of an optician.
Navy Enlisted
Classification Code (NEC)
– Special Series: Secondary skills nonrelated to rating.
» Example: BM3 with experience as a
dog handler.
– Alphanumeric Series: Equipment
specific skills or training level.
» Example: HT3 who operates a fork lift
or tractor.
