Defining Green
 Sustainable development
“meets the needs of the
present without compromising
the ability of future generations
to meet their own needs.”
- Brundtland Commission
Green Jobs Definition
"It has to pay decent wages and benefits
that can support a family. It has to be part
of a real career path, with upward
mobility. And it needs to reduce waste
and pollution and benefit the
environment.“
- Phil Angelides, The Apollo Alliance (Time
Magazine)

Democratic Platform
“Americans called for a Manhattan or
Apollo-project level commitment to
achieve energy independence. We heard
that call and we Democrats commit to
fast-track investment of billions of dollars
over the next ten years to establish a
green energy sector that will create up to
five million jobs.”
Republican Platform
“Alternate power sources must enter the
mainstream. The technology behind solar
energy has improved significantly in
recent years, and the commercial
development of wind power promises
major benefits both in costs and in
environmental protection…”
American Clean Energy
and Security Act




H.R.2454

CTE Must Be Part
of the Conversation!
 CTE is about the world of work – we
have to consider the implications
 We have to look outside of education as
well as within
 Secondary-postsecondary connections
are a key to success
 We must educate policymakers about
career development
