CTE Completion Rate
• As defined in the current Institutional Effectiveness
Report
– Denominator (Cohort):
• First-time freshmen in 2007-2008 who met all of the
following criteria:
– Earned 12 or more credit units at SMC within six years
– Attempted an advanced occupational course (CB09=B) within
six years
– Numerator:
• Students in the cohort who met one or more of the
following criteria within six years:
– Earned a Certificate of Achievement
– Earned an Associate Degree
– Transferred to a four-year institution

• Adding non-first time freshmen students in
the cohort did not improve the CTE
completion rates
• CTE completion rates vary by TOP code
• Some courses are miscoded in terms of
CB09
