• Istanbul University posses the
honour of being among the
first ten established
universities in Europe.
• It is established in 1453 so it is
an Univesity for 553 years .

• When the Turkish Republic was
founded, Istanbul University was
the only institution of higher
education. That is the reason why
it is the provider of teaching staff
for all the universities in Turkey
today .

have initiated the establishment of

• The language of instruction is both Turkish
and English in Cerrahpaşa Faculty of
Medicine, Faculty of Business
Management, Faculty of Economics and
Hasan Ali Yücel Teacher Training Faculty.
The language of instruction in the other
faculties is Turkish.
(It is possible for Erasmus Students that
they can make presentation in English
instead of writing examination)

Istanbul University there are

• In Istanbul University, there is
Mediko-Social Institution where
you can go for medical treatment.
And from pharmacy of the
University you can buy your
medicine in a very low price .
Turkish Language Courses
• Turkish Language and Culture courses are
provided in the academic level not only for
the students attending to Istanbul University
but also for the foreigners who want to attend
master or doctorate programmes.
• Five teaching staff, graduated from Turkology
Department and experienced in their field,
work in center which has been established
for the reason of teaching Turkish and
introducing Turkish Culture to the students
who come to our university in the extent of
Erasmus Programme.
• The education in Istanbul University
Language Center is provided in three
terms; winter, spring and summer. The
classes are for 25 students. The courses
are given via modern education methods.
• Erasmus students can attend to Turkish
and Turkish Culture courses three days in
a week, totally 9 hours.
There is an archive of documentary films
and Turkish movies in this center. The
skills of listening and comprehending of
the students are improved in this weekly
activity that is applied as a course.
• Besides, listening-dictation exercises are
applied via using our archive of Turkish
Music and Poetry frequently.
Course levels
• Erasmus Programme Students who are
registered for Istanbul University Language
Center Turkish Unit, first take a leveldetermination examination. According to the
results of the examinations, they are
separated into classes.
• Basic Turkish I-II
Intermediate Turkish I-II
Advanced Turkish I-II
A suitable programme is applied for each
class.
Social Activities
*
An acquaintance party is held in the beginning
of the term in the center. In each term
excursions to natural and historical regions of
Istanbul (Haghia Sophia, Blue Mosque,
Miniaturk, Museum of Arheology, Museum of
Pier Loti,Naval Museum, Museum of Fire
Brigade, Galata Tower, Büyükada etc.) are
arranged.
*Furthermore, you may follow art and culture agenda in
Istanbul. You may be informed about the dates of
concerts, theatre and exhibition halls that are in Istanbul,
the historical city, and may join them out of charge.

Application process of incoming
Erasmus Student
• Send the documents that are written below to the Istanbul University
International Academic Relations Committee via mail or e-mail till
15th of December- the last-for winter term, and 15th of July -the lastfor Spring term.

Turkish after all documents reach to the Istanbul University
International Academic Relations Committee/ Erasmus Coordination

Process that the incoming Erasmus Student is required to do before
exchange
Keep in contact with the Erasmus Coordinator of the
faculty/department/high school to which you will attend and consult her/him
about lectures you may choose. Fill and make sign your Erasmus learning
agreement by consulting Erasmus Coordinator of your
University/faculty/department. For the lectures that are given in Istanbul

So far Istanbul University do not provide Turkish language course for
Erasmus Students.
Student visa: Everyone, coming with the purpose of education is required to
take visa from foreign represantations of Turkish Republic.
Accomodation
Istanbul University can provide accomodation in
governmental dormitories that serve in
constitution of General Directorate of Higher
Education Credit and Dormitory Instution. The
dormitories are around the campuses of Avcılar
and Beyazıt. The dormitory places are seperate
for male and female. Rooms are for 4-8 persons;
bathrooms and restrooms are located on the
floors for the common use of students. The
dormitory price is around 4 YTL (New Turkish
Lira) per night for 2005/2006 education and
learning year.
