5-3 Inequalities in One Triangle
MS. ANDREJKO
Real World
Vocabulary
 Inequality- For any real numbers a and b, a>b
if and only if there is a positive number c such
that a=b+c
Properties of Inequalities
 Comparison Property:
 a<b, a=b, or a>b
 Transitive Property:
 If a< b and b<c, then a<c
 If a>b and b>c , then a>c
 Addition Property:
 If a>b, then a+c > b+c
 If a<b, then a+c < b+c
 Subtraction Property:
 If a>b , then a-c > b-c
 If a <b, then a-c < b-c
Theorems
 5.8- The measure of an exterior angle of a triangle is
greater than the measure of either of its
corresponding remote interior angles
 5.9- If one side of a triangle is longer than the other
side, then the angle opposite the longer side has a
greater measure than the angle opposite the shorter
side
 5.10- If one angle of a triangle has a greater measure
than another angle, then the side opposite the
greater angle is longer than the side opposite the
lesser angle
