The largest multi-disciplinary classical institution of higher
education and the leading university of the system of the
Russian Federation Federal Agency for Education in the
European north of Russia

PetrSU students
At present more than 19 500 graduate and postgraduate students
study at the university on 56 majors of higher professional education
and 57 majors of postgraduate studies.
16 bachelor’s degree programmes and 5 master’s degree programmes
are licensed. Annually more than 4100 people take training, re-training
and advanced training courses.

Finnish-Russian Student Exchange Program- FIRST
(is based on network cooperation between Finnish and
Russian (North-Western region) institutions of higher
education the foundation of which is the bilateral exchange
of students of the agreed majors).

Educational activities
PetrSU postgraduate students and young scientists take part in the following
programmes of the Centre of International Mobility (CIMO):
CIMO Fellowships (Grants for foreign postgraduate students and young scientists to
fulfill postgraduate education; to conduct scientific professorial cooperation in
different scientific areas in Finnish universities).
Finnish Government Scholarship Pool (postgraduate education in different
scientific areas in Finnish institutions of higher education, for citizens of 30
countries)
Scholarships for the Representatives of the Finno-Ugric Peoples of Russia (for
specialists – the representatives of the Finno-Ugric peoples – who live on the
territory of the Central Russia in order to fulfill postgraduate education and
research activity in the field of study of finno-ugristics, the Finnish language and
culture.
Scholarship Programme of the Finnish language
Scholarships for postgraduate students and scientists in the area of the Finnish
language, the Finno-Ugric linguistics, ethnography and study of folklore to fulfill
postgraduate education and research activity.
Scholarships for graduates specializing in “The Finnish language” to study at
Finnish universities.
Winter School
Annual participation in winter school on different specializations.

Since 1993
The main areas of joint activity are scientific research,
development of mathematic models and software for
automation and management of industrial enterprises,
organization of conferences and seminars, specialist training.
Since 1994
Annual conferences "New information technologies in pulpand-paper industry and power engineering” (together with
“Kondopoga", “Segezhabumprom", “Archangelsky pulp and
paper mill", “Petrozavodskbummash", “Karelenergo", “Rakurs”
companies)
Since 1998 PetrSU has been providing training for enterprise
specialists and students on working with metsoDNA automated
control systems of Metso Automation Inc. and has been issuing
certificates on its completion. For that period 140 specialists of
20 Russian enterprises and 170 PetrSU students and
postgraduate students have taken this course of training.

Since 2001 PetrSU specialists have took part in the
implementation of 32 projects on the application of Metso
Automation Inc. information systems on the CIS enterprises :
“Alrosa", "Archangelsky pulp and paper mill ", “Kondopoga",
“Nevinnomissky Azot", Poltavsky ore mining and processing
enterprise, «Sibur», “Solombalsky pulp and paper mill ",
“Surgutneftegaz", etc.
PetrSU-Metso Automation Systems Centre was established in
2002. Its mission is service in the area of information
technologies and development of automated systems of
management of enterprises and technological processes. The
main Centre customers are Russian and foreign industrial
enterprises, companies specializing in software development,
commercial enterprises and other organizations. At present the
staff number amounts to 58 people and continues to increase.

Since 2005.

The main areas of joint activity are scientific research,
the development of hardware, mathematic models and
software for automation and management of industrial
enterprises, organization of conferences and seminars,
training and exchange of specialists.
Annually PetrSU participates in the implementation of
activities on scientific research projects financed by VTT
on subcontract terms as well as on the mutually agreed
area.


Cooperation between PetrSU and Nokia Research Centre

since 2006.

The main areas of joint activity are the development of software for
mobile devices, training in Open Source Software as well as
scientific research and development of hardware and software for
sensor wireless networks.

With the support of Nokia in 2008 in PetrSU the Centre of mobile and
wireless technologies and applications was established in which 8
employees and 10 PetrSU students work at present.
The whole above-mentioned activity (on production cooperation) is
coordinated by PetrSU IТ-Park, in which more than 300 employees
functions within 20 departments. PetrSU IТ-Park continues its active
work on the search of new partners and customers among
companies, industrial enterprises and other organizations of Finland.

The Republic of Karelia is the border area of the
Russian Federation, (770 km of the common
border with Finland)

PetrSU considers the cross-border cooperation as
the priority direction of the development of the
university international activity, as an important tool
to train specialist who is able to work in the
conditions of global economy, have highly qualified
professional knowledge, knowledge of foreign
languages and new information technologies.
