POST INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROGRAM • Instructor Development Concept briefed to the POST Commission and approved in 2007 • The fourth POST Institute (Supervisory Leadership Institute, Command College and Institute of Criminal Investigation) • Focus groups held throughout California to gather feedback on the concept • Work groups met to “flesh out” the concept • Development and delivery of these courses is split between Napa Valley (Levels 1 and 2) and San Diego Regional Training Center (Levels 3 and 4) POST INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE • The PowerPoint that follows is an overview of how the conceptual plan for the Commission on POST Instructor Development Institute (IDI) has been implemented • A select committee of POST staff and presenters meet on a quarterly basis to review the courses as well as POST and field needs, addressing potential updates and changes • All POST IDI courses are on the web site. Go to www.postidi.com to view all course and related listings • This PowerPoint represents the “current status” of the IDI courses and is subject to updating and changes on a regular basis POST INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE PURPOSE: To provide standardized, multi-level, multi-track programs to develop professionalism in the delivery of law enforcement instruction An OVERVIEW of the PROCESS and the LEVELS The Process and the Certification Requirements for Each Level POST IDI Level 1 (AICC/Entry Level) POST IDI Level 2 (Intermediate) POST IDI Level 3 (Advanced) Certification at the Basic Level includes: Certification at the Intermediate Level includes: Certification at the Advanced Level includes: • Complete a 40-hour POST Basic Instructor Certification Program • Complete the 24-hour • Complete the 40-hour Advanced Instructor Development Core Course with a 16-hour Teach Back session (56-hrs total) • Validation of competencies in the classroom • Triennial re-certification of the learned skills Intermediate Instructional Skills Course • Complete the 8-hour Presentation Skills and Tools Course • Complete the 24-hour Instructional Technology Course • Complete an 8-hour Critical Thinking Skills Course • Complete the 24-hour Leadership, Coaching and Mentoring Course • Be mentored by an MIDP or MICC graduate 60 Certification at the Master Level 4 includes: Complete the Master Instructor Development Program (MIDP); designing, developing and days delivering a minimum of a 24hour course that meets a demonstrated and POST approved training need • This course is to be developed and will follow the proven model of the present Master Instructor Course • The candidate’s ISD and TTP will be evaluated by a panel of qualified trainers prior to course • Master Instructor’s provide the cadre to deliver all POST IDI training • Equivalencies may be granted only for AICC/Entry Level Instructor Development.
