My Role

Children’s Therapies
• Children’s Therapies consist of children’s
physiotherapists, occupational therapists and
speech and language therapists
• Children seen in a variety of community
settings to promote inclusion and optimise
child’s full developmental potential.
• Team works closely with all agencies with the
child and family at the centre of their care.
Children’s Therapies
• Range of conditions seen from mild
developmental problems to complex needs
• Work with children from birth to 18 years or
19 years of age if in special school
• Aim to empower child and carer to manage
the child’s condition through a variety of types
of intervention designed specifically for each
child

0-19 teams provide universal and targeted services for pre-school and
school aged children. Universal services include routine health
screening for all children from birth onwards by a qualified Specialist
Practitioner and is aimed at monitoring growth and development and
delivering a comprehensive childhood immunisation programme (to
include HPV ).
Targeted services involve identifying need and making referrals to
other professionals and agencies according to need. HVs and School
Nurses have additional training in Child Protection and Safeguarding
and family support and may take a lead professional role in complex
care cases. The service has close links with the Police specifically
information sharing re Domestic Violence incidents
The service acts as a source of advice and information for families and
other key partners on a range of health and social care issues
The service’s main objectives are focussed on improving outcomes for
children and their families by providing early intervention to health
advice, information and support and facilitating access to a range of
services.
CDC Ormskirk
• Complex Needs Nurse/CDC Coordinator Provision of a specialist nursing service to
children and young people with special needs
and their families.
• Community Paediatrics - This is a team of
paediatricians (doctors who specialise in child
health) based within the community, who offer
specialist advice on children’s health issues.

NHS Central Lancashire Chief Executive bears responsibility for ensuring that
the health contribution to child protection is discharged

Ensure staff are trained to know how to act upon their concerns in line with
the Local Safeguarding Children Board and NHS Central Lancashire

Have a Named Doctor and Nurse who take the professional lead within the
Trust on safeguarding children matters
•
Ensure that all staff who come into contact with children are Criminal Record
Bureau (CRB) checked

Ensure all effective Clinical Governance systems are in place

• Designated Professionals have overarching child protection
responsibility. Their role is primarily strategic.
• Responsibility for co-ordinating the Health Service response to
Serious Case Reviews.
• Liaise with NHS Legal Advisors as necessary.

on all safeguarding matters.
• Be a source of knowledge and advice regarding child health and
development, maltreatment and local arrangements for
safeguarding.
