The Flood Vigilance System (July 2006)
http://www.vigicrues.ecologie.gouv.fr
To better anticipate flood crises through regular and formatted information
To use a common decision-aid system for a graduated involvement of civil
security
To directly inform the population to help them become actor

Our challenges
To improve the existing system
Data network (more complete and diverse)
Data assimilation in hydrologic and hydraulic models
Communication during and post crisis
Link with similar systems developed by local communities
To coordinate financial and technical programmes of
our 22 regional services
To enlarge forecasting to new areas
Real forecasting of flooded areas, link with flood directive
Forecasting on small watersheds – runoff – pluvial flooding
Integrate main urban alert systems
Develop warning systems in La Réunion island and Guyana
Use FF models for climate change scenario assessment
To enlarge our parternship
More technical work with the national engineering centres
More collaboration (spatial agency, hydropower company..)
Abroad: Europe (interreg, operational…), WMO,
