•
Initiated by Brian Cameron, Penn State University, to develop the EA
Profession and enable sharing of knowledge among professional
organizations.
Launched in 2011 after a year of discussion among interested organizations.
Worldwide association of professional organizations which provides a forum to
standardize, professionalize, and otherwise advance the discipline of EA.
Provides organizations opportunity to present the work of their respective
organizations to a larger community for comment, evolution, and recognition.
Opportunity for recognition/adoption of standards, bodies of knowledge,
certifications, model curriculums, and other items of interest to the larger EA
community.
Voting Membership is limited to not-for-profit professional organizations with
EA focus group.
Provides participation opportunities for other not-for-profit and commercial
organizations, e.g. certification-oriented providers, tool vendors, consulting
firms.

participating organization, including commercial and notfor-profits.
• So far the effort has been carried by FMO Delegates,
FMO Alternates, and officers.
• This is an opportunity for INCOSE to learn from and
shape EA across many other organizations and EA
providers.
• Most WG activities are conducted electronically.

Taxonomy WG
• Description of the domain of Enterprise Architecture
(EADD), suitable for those that are not EA professionals
• A lexicon for the EA profession that identifies terms and
relationships between terms commonly used to articulate
EA artifacts and practice (EA Lexicon)
• Elaboration of the taxonomy and lexicon with term
descriptions that form the foundation for an Enterprise
Architecture Body of Knowledge (EA Ontology or EAO)
• Reference and researched artifact showing an EA
Ecosystem of expressed and currently produced artifacts
by various FEAPO members, membership and relevant
supporting organizations.

organizations – partially completed.
• Collection of EA definitions and descriptions
across domains of interest – partially completed.
• The TOGAF issue and Len Fehskens view of EA.

FEAPO Ontology
Work Product #3: EA Ontology:
• Solicit definitions for foundation terms and terms strongly
associated (many of these will be result of EADD and EA
Lexicon efforts)
• Verify consistency of definitions with each other and
identify sub-domains of usage
• Prepare narrative introduction to ontology, including
expectations for application and domain coverage
• Circulate EA Ontology for review and comment
• Prepare EA Ontology work product for submission to
Council for approval

FEAPO Lexicon Analysis
Work Product #2: EA Lexicon:
• Capture terms from EADD
• Circulate terms among members seeking additional EA
terms and linkage between terms
• Create hyper-graph of terms for review and discussion
• Identify foundation terms of general usage for agreement
• Prune hyper graph to foundation terms and strongly
associated associations
• Prepare EA Lexicon and partial grammar
• Submit EA Lexicon to Council for acceptance by FMO's

FEAPO EA Perspectives
The Public Face of Enterprise Architecture Initiative
• Background: Enterprise Architecture is a growing field. While many
early-adopting organizations have reaped the benefits of Enterprise
Architecture, the mainstream communities of business and
government leaders have not yet heard a clear message describing
the value that they should expect from employing Enterprise
Architects in their organization.
• Purpose: The Federation of Enterprise Architecture Professional
Organizations (FEAPO) has embarked upon an effort to create a
single clear message that an EA Champion can use, and that
business and government leaders can consume. This message,
produced through the contribution of trusted experts nominated by
member organizations, will be co-published by many of the FEAPO
member organizations and will guide the expectations of EA
stakeholders for many years into the future.

Perspectives Survey
• Six organizations, representing thousands of engineers and
analysts, and architects, responded to the initial survey, providing
information on such topics as “how EA is described,” “what is the
value proposition of EA,” “what would a business stakeholder
experience when working with an EA,” and “how is Enterprise
Architecture related to governance?”
• The survey produced over 30 pages of raw text. That information
was worded as a paper, and then circulated to the FEAPO member
organizations for additional input. Additional contributions arrived
from different professional organizations representing thousands of
professional members with such broad interests as business
architecture, business analysis, data management, advanced
technologies, and software engineering.

Perspectives 1st Draft
• Executive Summary: The process of implementing Enterprise
Architecture to assist with the Strategic Planning function within
organizations is a relatively new business function necessitated by
the dynamic nature and rate of change in modern business. This
business function employs professionals, identified as Enterprise
Architects, to create and manage a body of information about the
vision, structure, strategy, interrelationships, and technologies of an
organization. This paper provides an introduction and value
proposition of Enterprise Architecture as a Strategic Planning
function that can be utilized by a diverse set of organizations from
commercial, governmental, and non-profits alike. The paper
describes the type of activities an Enterprise Architect typically
performs, the skills needed to perform them, and the artifacts or
outputs that they produce along the way.
