Chattrapati Shivaji International Airport :
On arrival at the Chattrapati Shivaji Airport (35kms from city centre), the immigration, baggage retrieval and customs areas precede the remainder of the services. Exchange can be obtained at bank counters just outside the customs area. Hotel bookings and pre-paid taxis are available. Phones are available at both arrival and departure.
Chattrapati Shivaji Santa Cruz Domestic Airport :
On arrival at the Santa Cruz Airport (25kms from city center) the baggage retrieval area is skirted by counters for various services such as hotel reservations. There is no pre-paid taxi counter, although some auto-rentals may represent themselves as such. Taxis are available from a policed queue outside the terminal. The departure area has minimal shopping and snack bar. Phones are available at both arrival and departure.

On the Western Line, Auto-Rickshaws are a good local transport from Borivali till Bandra. Auto rickshaws are not permitted to enter the suburbs beyond Sion and Bandra in South Mumbai. At the time of paying fare, please note the meter reading. They have been allowed to ply between Sion to Mulund in the Central Suburbs and up to Mankhurd on the Harbour line.
People who wish to travel beyond Mumbai to suburbs like Vashi, Airoli have to catch another rickshaw. In the western suburbs they are allowed to ply between Bandra and Bhayandar only.
You have to pay an Indian Rupee less than the reading in the meter, however, during Mid-night i.e. from 12:00am till 5:00 am, extra charges are added to the meter reading.

These metered taxis ply throughout Mumbai and have monopoly from Bandra to Churchgate on the Western line and Sion to Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus on the Central line.
Beyond Sion and Bandra auto-rickshaws are not allowed and one has to hire a taxi.
However, between Sion to Thane and Bandra to Bhayandar, Taxis and auto-rickshaws ply.
