WASTE (307)777 -77 52 FAX 777-5973 August 31, 2004 RE: HAPs ...your question about asbestos, we have not specifically entered any data into the EPA database. EPA used data from the National Toxics Institute database for 1996 and we do not know where NTI got it, however they did not get it from us or from the company. We downloaded that database several years ago and found it to be full of errors for a number of sources, so we basically threw it out. EPA has never fixed these problems which is why state agencies are so resistant to use these publicly accessible databases. … “Left Click” to Next Slide Why is Accurate Trona Cloud Information not Generally Available to the Public ???? “Left Click” to Next Slide …a Difficult Question to Answer… Department of Environmental Quality To protect, conserve and enhance the quality of Wyoming's environment for the benefit of current and future generations. Dave Freudenthal, Governor John Corra,Director July 14, 2008 Why do the federal data on HAPs differ from our data? “This is a difficult question. …HAPs reported here do not agree with the state data …We have no idea where EPA got this information-it wasn't from us. Another example is the Solvay Minerals, Inc facility, where EPA reports 369,836 pounds of HAPs; this matches up with our data except the EPA total does not include 98,762 pounds of benzene. Benzene is a HAP, so we are at a loss as to why the benzene we reported to EPA as being emitted from this facility is not included in the NEI database. The General Chemical, FMC Westvaco, and OCI entries from the EP A Air Data website also appear to be missing benzene, and as near as we can tell the entries in rows 3 and 8 are really the same facility with different HAP totals….” Herschler Building • 122 West 25th Street • Cheyenne, WY 82002 • http://deq.state.wy.us ADMIN/OUTREACH ABANDONED MINES AIR QUALITY INDUSTRIAL SITING LAND QUALITY SOLID & HAZ_ WASTE WATER QUALITY (307) 777-7937 FAX 777-3610 (307) 777-6145 FAX 777-6462 (307) 777-7391 FAX 777-5616 (307) 777-7369 FAX 777-5973 (307) 777-7756 FAX 777-5864 (307) 777-7752 FAX 777-5973 (307) 777-7781 FAX 777-5973 …Trona Cloud Information, a Product of Cooperative Effort Between Federal and State Agencies…? “Left Click” to Next Slide …or the Fruits of a Poisonous Tree?
