Repeaters & Beacons of Tasmania
This is a PowerPoint Presentation compiled on Tasmania’s Amateur Radio
repeater & beacon stations. Most of our repeater’s are the most remote and
highest repeaters in the country. A complete list of all repeaters in Tasmania
can be found on the Radio and Electronics Association of Southern
Tasmania’s website here. To progress to the next slide just click once with

VK7RAD (Repeater 2)
146.700,147.975,53.825 MHz
VK7RAD/Repeater 2 is located on the Domain in Hobart and is
the main repeater in Southern Tasmania. The repeater runs
100W on the 2m repeater into a Diamond X-300 and 30W on 6m
into a Halo antenna. Also on site are various Digipeaters and a
2m beacon/repeater which is on 147.975 MHz which retransmits
any activity on VK7’s RTC,RIN,RBH,RAD (6m) and 147.375.
The Domain is located 140m above sea level and has a good
outlook all over the city.

VK7RHT 146.850 Snug Tiers
VK7RHT/Repeater 5 is located on Snug Tiers and serves South
East of Hobart. It is permanently linked to VK7RAD and runs 100W
into a Diamond X-300. Also on site are APRS and Packet Digis.
Snug Tiers is 370m high.

one for receive
and one for
transmit. The

an APRS digi,
which has been
replaced, and
cavities are
also seen in the
right photo.
This is a photo of VK7RHT
146.850 Snug Tiers tower. The
tower for the repeater is the thin
one on the right. VK7RHT was
originally located at Guy Fawkes
Hill over the Derwent River but
was moved to the present location,
with VK7RAD installed to serve
Hobart. VK7RHT currently serves
well on the Eastern Shore,
Kingston, Channel and Huonville
as well as parts of Hobart

VK7RAF is 900m above Hobart and coverage even extends to the Northern part of the state. It runs 50W. A tone of 123hz is required
to operate the repeater and a link to VK7RAB/7RNE up in the North East of Tasmania is also available with a 141.3hz tone.
VK7RTC Mt.Nelson 438.600 MHZ
141.3 hz tone. Located on a commercial
repeater site on Mt.Nelson in Hobart.
Antenna
VK7RTC’s Antenna is on the photo to
the right of the screen. The antenna is
the third white co-linear from the left.
VK7RTC is the only UHF repeater in the
Southern part of Tasmania and is owned
by Brian VK7RR who installed it
in 1983 and is still going strong.

up!!!! Mt.Barrow is 1413m high.

Repeater 8 is running 100W into a dipole.
Coverage from RAA is most of the North West
coast, North East, East Coast and some parts of
the South

VK7RAB solar panels, hut and tower.
The view is towards Launceston.
Mt.Arthur is 1190m high is located in the states North East.
VK7RAB runs 50W. It is also linked to the South via a
141.3hz tone to VK7RAF. It is also permanently linked to
146.725 VK7RNE Tower Hill.
VK7RBH is the highest located
repeater in Tasmania on Ben
Lomond (1573m). It runs 25W and
can be easily accessed from the
mainland when good “tropo”
conditions are present.
The radios inside VK7RBH
This is a photo of a very snowy and
cold VK7RNE. It’s amazing the
radios still work!! VK7RNE is
located on Tower Hill which is just
east of Ben Lomond (VK7RBH).
VK7RNE is permanently linked to
VK7RAB Mt.Arthur and is also able
to link to VK7RAF Mt.Faulkner in
Hobart using a 141.3hz CTCSS
tone.
The repeater runs 30W and is over
1000m high.
VK7RIN is located on Barren Tier in the central plateau of Tassie. It runs 20W and is 1188m high.

Mt.Duncan 600m
N.West Tasmania
146.625 MHz
VK7RMD
438.600 MHz
VK7RMD, Mt.Duncan is located on the North-West coast of Tasmania near
Devonport. Mt.Duncan is 600m high and has good coverage of the area and
even extends into parts of Launceston. Mt.Duncan is also a good repeater for
VK3’s and VK5’s to try to access. The 2m repeater runs 30W into a Moonraker
vertical antenna and the 70cm repeater runs 40W into a set of 4 folded dipoles.

Inside this shed, is VK7RNW’s 2m, 6m, and ATV repeater
VK7RNW is located at Lonah on the states North-West
coast. VK7RNW has 3 repeaters on air. 146.750 2m
repeater which runs 30W, 6m repeater 53.825 which
runs 20W and ATV repeater 426.250 which runs 5W.
Lonah is 160m above sea level and
is also accessible from the
mainland VK3’s and VK5’s.

VK7RAC 438.650 is located on Table
Cape and is the most North-Western
repeater in Tassie. It runs 3 W and is
150m ASL.
VK7RAC’s Tower and Equipment
Mt.Read 147.075 VK7RWC is
located on the West Coast near
Rosebery. It runs 20W and is 1200
metres high. You can see by the
photo that they get a bit of snow
during winter and it’s very cold
work!!
