“My Life as a Rock”
By: Alyssa C
•
Fact: Magma is melted
rock beneath the ground,
it is the first station in a
rocks’ life.
•
Story: “ Maaaan, it’s hot
in here!” said Cindy. Hi
my name is Suzie and I’m
an Igneous rock, or should
I say “ soon – to – be –
one”. Until then, I’m hot
magma. I don’t like being
magma because you don’t
get any privacy, yesterday
I was writing in my diary
when someone looked
over my shoulder and
shouted out my secret. I
got so embarrassed I
started to cry, nobody
cared except my friend
Cindy.
Magma
Igneous
• Fact: Magma cools and crystallizes to form
Igneous rock. Most Igneous rocks
have crystals.
•
Story: A few seconds later,
“ What’s happening?” said Cindy, Fred and I. Fred is my other buddy, it doesn’t really
matter now, we’re worried about what’s going to happen to us.
“WE ARE AT THE STATION WHERE WE CHANGE INTO ROCKS!” said a guy with a bull horn.
Weathering
• Story: “ AAAAGGGHHHH! Cindy? Fred? Where are you guys?
Oh, no they’re Metamorphic and Sedimentary!!!!!!” I said. “I
guess I’m all alone!” I thought.
A few minutes later, it starts raining.
“ Now what’s happening?”
“ I don’t like being outside when it rains!”
Eroding
• Story: “ Is there a draft in here, oh yeah this
is the stage where I erode!” I said, “ It feels
like I’m getting worn down ,you know.”
Depositing
Story: “Great I’m starting to develop
layers” I thought to myself, “I don’t
want layers being added on to me, I
want to be myself!” This is the stage
of depositing.
• Fact: Igneous has lots of different
varieties of rocks.
• Fact: The different types of Igneous
rocks are basalt, grabbro, pumice,
rhyolite, obsidian, granite, diorite,
andesite, periodotite, pryoxen,
anorthosite.
Compacting
• Story: “I’m getting squished, well I wonder why, this is
the compacting part!” I remarked. “ I feel weird!”
• Fact: WEDCC means weathered, eroded, deposited,
compacted and cemented
Cementing
• Story: “ Hey, hey,
hey, where did
this paste and
water come
from? Why do I
feel “molded”?
Oh, that’s why
this is the
cementing stage!
• Fact: Igneous
rocks come from
the Earth’s
interior.
Sedimentary
• Story: “Hello? Cindy? Cindy! There you are, I was
looking all over for you! How are you? Are you
okay? Let’s go see a movie, c’mon!
“ Fine, I’ll go, I just miss Fred!” said Cindy.
“ I miss him too, Cindy! Anyway what movie do
you want to see, I want to see “ Life of a Rock”, don’t
you?”
“Okay”
• Fact: In Green Valley Ranch there is mostly
Sedimentary rocks.
Weathered
Story: An hour and a half later,
“ That movie was horrific!” said Cindy.
“ Oh, no here we go again!”
“ Here we go again, what?” asked Cindy.
“WEDCC!” I said. “Get ready for rain, sunshine, and snow!” I
remarked.
“SSSSSSCCCCRRRREEEEEEAAAAAAAAMMMMMMM!!!!”
yelled Cindy. “ I don’t like the weathering process!” exclaimed
Cindy.
“ I don’t like it either Cindy, I just don’t !” I said. “ You don’t
know what surprises will approach, here comes the eroding
part! This is where we get worn down!”
Sharp

Eroding
Round
rocks
•
Story: “Hey, is there a draft in here?” we
both said.
Then,
“ Here comes the hurtful parts!, depositing,
compacting and cementing! Compacting
really hurts! Well, here we go again!” I
remarked.
Fact: Sedimentary rocks has layers, it smells like
dirt but it looks like mud.
• Story: “Now
we are getting
more layers!” I
whispered.
• Fact:
Sedimentary is
granular.
• Fact: The
weight of
water and the
top layer of
sediments
press the
bottom layers
tightly
together to
form
sedimentary
rocks.
Depositing
Compacting
• Story: “ Ouch, man, I
just broke a nail, let’s
go to the nail salon!”
said Cindy.
“Nooooo! It’s just the
compacting stage, and
YOU have nails?!
• Fact: Every rock goes
through WEDCC.
Cementing
• Story: “What is this gunk?”asked Cindy.
“It’s just the paste and water!” I yelled at her. This was not a fun
time for both of us. As a matter of fact this wasn’t fun at all! Then,
we blacked out believe it or not!
Fact: Every rock turns into magma
“What is this gunk?”
asked Cindy.
Heat
• Story: Cindy wake up!
It’s morning! Do you
feel strange at all? I
do! I feel strange
because it feels like we
are right next to the
sun! How did we get
down here? Oh I know
why, this is the heat
station.
Pressure
“Great , we are under
a sumo wrestler! This
is the pressure
station! Darn it!” I
said.
• Story: What, why do I feel pressure? Do you feel pressure?”
“Yeah!” she said.
“Great, we are under a sumo wrestler ! This the pressure station!
Darn it!” I said.
Metamorphic
• Story: “ Cindy, wake up! I found Fred! He is right
next to me!” I yelled in her ear.
“ What, you found Fred? Fred! I’m so glad
to see you!” she danced around the grass as if
she were in a dance competition. “Yippeeee!”
Heat
• Fact: Usually metamorphic rocks have stripes
and they’re more dense.
Pressure
• Fact: Metamorphic rocks are created when other types of rocks are
transformed due to great pressure and heat within the earth.
• Fact: The meaning of the term ‘metamorphic’, in fact, is ‘changed’.
When igneous rocks, or sedimentary rocks, or even metamorphic
rocks get buried very deep under the earth’s surface, a process that
takes millions of years, they get changed into something else by the
enormous pressure and heat inside the earth.
Melt
“ Don’t you guys feel
like you’re slowly
melting?”
• Story: I interrupted.
“Don’t you guys feel like you’re slowly melting?”
“Yeah, we do!” they both said.
“This is the melting stage, so get ready!”
“ We are already magma dudette” they both said.
“ So am I, and this is where it all started” I said to my pals.
And we lived sadly ever after.
