
Can anyone tell me what a Character is?

Can anyone tell me where is the setting, what does that mean?

Can anyone tell me what a problem is? How about solution?
ACTIVITY 1

Read to students “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric
Carle. Keep in mind the colors, and drawings you see!
Have students work on their tables. They need to draw
and write who the characters are, where the setting is,
what the problem and solution is. Each group is assigned
one story element.
They need to draw a picture with their one sentence
description.
Have students glue on their works of art to class board.
WHO AM I?
Can anyone tell me what book this man is holding?
Who do you think he is?
Why is he important?

ACTIVITY 2

BUTTERFLY
Using mixed media materials, students will create the life cycle of
the butterfly. Using the text clues from the story, students will
use beans, dried pasta, leaves, and crayons to create a life model
of cycle.
Assessment- Students will then write a short description for each
stage of cycle. Differentiation- students will write a one
sentence describing each stage copied from the board. Other
students will write 2 sentences and the rest need to write 3 or
more sentences. Sentences will include colors they’ve used, the
