Reading, Researching, and Writing
Grade 8

• Choose a project that you are interested in
and can convey what you have learned
through class lessons, independent reading,
research, and inquiry.
• If you are absent, visit the school website to
keep up to date.
• Remember, you can come to the library
before and after school. If you need teacher
help, make arrangements with either Mr.
Santee, Mrs. Cox, or Mrs. Reynolds. We are
here to help- but we are busy people and
need some notice!
Newspaper
Be sure to answerWho? What? Where? When? Why? How?
Set up your paper to look like a newspaper
title, date, price, columns, pictures w/ captions
**You may want to include parts of other
newsworthy stories of the times
Journal

A sense of “voice” and personality of
writer
• A font that looks like handwriting, but is
easy to read
• Sketches/doodles that correspond
to a journal entry
Letter

• Proper friendly letter format (see Write
Source 2000 book)
• Details that show research
• Accurately portrays the writer (voice,
personality, personal details, etc.)
• Consider writing a reply to your letter
Bibliography
• All projects must include a
separate sheet that lists your sources.
• You must use both print and electronic
sources.
• Your bibliography is part of the grade.
• Use class time wisely and work a little at home
each evening.
• Refer to the rubric often to ensure you are on the
right track.
• Proofread your work often and get a peer to assist
you!
Expectations…..
• Your written communication must include
9-10 specific facts that show thorough research.
• You must use both print and non-print resources.
Using the citation
machine, cite them on your
bibliography page. The more
resources used, the more
thorough the research!
Try to find information
that no one else will
have!
All projects should look “authentic.”
Be creative so your project stands out
among all others!
You will get out of this project what you
put into it.
