Overall YV Strategy
• The financial viability of sailing clubs largely hinge on sailing activity
• Help clubs attract new members
• Help clubs retain members
• Assist sailors who aspire to national and international success
YV Coaching Strategy
• Increase the retention of people to the sport of competitive sailing
• Increase the number and quality of club coaching programs
• Increase the number of participants in those programs
• Increase the number and success of participants in formal racing and
regattas

• Member clubs offer and provide formal coaching programs
• Class Associations offer formal coaching programs either in
conjunction with a club or not
• Victorian High Performance Program fills the gap to increase
number of Vic sailors in ASDS/AST and Aust Youth Team
• Increase in quality and quantity of qualified coaches to support all
levels of coaching programs

• Participation = many more people sailing
• Pathways = keeping people sailing
• Performance = much better results for Victorian sailors who want them

What YV asks of Clubs
• Prioritize – Participation, Pathways and Performance in their plans
• Develop a coaching program run by a YA Club or State Coach
• Put major events on Club calendar without conflict
Classes based programs
• May or may not be in conjunction with a club
• Offer through to advanced level and National Championships
• Develop a coaching program run by a YA Club or State Coach
• Link between classes sailed at clubs and club programs
Victorian Sailing Team and High Performance Program
• Fills gap between club program and YA elite squads
• Coaching for few top youth and possibly junior class sailors
• Potential to make the ASDS (Australian Sailing Development Squad)
and AST ( Australian Sailing Team)
