David Ben-Gurion
David Ben-Gurion was the first Prime Minister
of Israel. He is considered the "father" of
modern Israel. Ben-Gurion was also named one
of Time Magazine's 100 Most Important People
of the Century.
In 1969 Golda Meir became Israel's first and the
world's third woman to hold the Prime Minister
office .She was described as the "Iron Lady" of
Israeli politics.

Shimon Peres is the ninth and current President of the State of Israel.
He served twice as the Prime Minister of Israel and once as Interim Prime Minister, and has been a
member of 12 cabinets in a political career spanning over 66 years.
At the age of 90, Peres is the world's oldest head of state.
Shimon Peres is the author of 11 books
He won the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize together with Yitzhak Rabin for the peace talks that he participated in
as Israeli Foreign Minister, producing the Oslo Accords.
Yitzhak Rabin was a politician, statesman and general. He was
the fifth Prime Minister of Israel, serving two terms in office,
1974–77 and 1992 until his assassination in 1995.
In 1964 he was appointed Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense
Forces (IDF)
Following his retirement from the IDF he became ambassador to
the United States beginning in 1968, serving for five years.
Menachem Begin was an Israeli politician, founder of Likud
and the sixth Prime Minister of the State of Israel.
Begin’s most significant achievement as Prime Minister was the
signing of a peace treaty with Egypt in 1979, for which he and
Anwar Sadat shared the Nobel Prize for Peace.
Yosef "Tommy" Lapid, born as Tomislav Lampel to a
family of Hungarian Jewish descent, was an Israeli radio
and television presenter, journalist, politician and
government minister known for his sharp tongue and acerbic
wit.

Ron Arad , was an Israeli Air Force combat navigator officer who is officially classified as missing in action
since October 1986, but is widely presumed dead.
Arad was lost on a mission over Lebanon, captured by Shiite group Amal and was later handed over to the
Hezbollah.
Yonatan "Yoni" Netanyahu was the commander of the elite
Israeli army commando unit Sayeret Matkal. He was killed
in action
during Operation Entebbe in Uganda.
He was awarded the Medal of Distinguished Service for his
conduct in the Yom Kippur War. His younger brother,
Benjamin Netanyahu, is the current Prime Minister of Israel.
Teddy Kollek served as the mayor of Jerusalem
from 1965 to 1993.
During his tenure, Jerusalem developed into a
modern city, especially after its reunification in
1967.
He was once called "the greatest builder of
Jerusalem since Herod."

Nahum Gutman , a Bessarabia -born Israeli painter, sculptor, and author, helped
pioneer a distinctively Israeli style, moving away from the European influences of his
teachers. He worked in many different media: oils, watercolors, gouache and pen and
ink.
Andrei Călăraşu was born in 1922 in
Botosani, Romania as Bernard Grupper.
Holocaust survivor, famous theatre and film
director both in Romania and Israel.
In 1965, Andrei immigrated to Israel.
He began to work at the Beit Zvi School for the
Performing Arts, where he established the Film
and Television track. He was a member of the
founding team of Israel Television. He worked
in television and in radio, for some 30 years,
directing hundreds of programs.
He died and was buried in Tel Aviv on Friday, 3
May 2014

Eli Ben Zaken, the founder of Domaine du Castel family winery
was one of two Israelis to be honored with the French National
Order of Agricultural Merit.
The kosher wines produced at Domaine Du Castel near
Jerusalem, are known and appreciated all around the world.
Stef Wertheimer is a German-born Israeli business
magnate, philanthropist and former politician. He is a
former Member of the Knesset.
Wertheimer founded four industrial parks in Israel, with the
goal of fostering economic growth and job creation to
help create stability in the region. One of the parks is
in Omer, in the Negev.
The popular ICQ instant-messaging program was created by four Israeli computer geeks: Yair Goldfinger, Arik Vardi, Sefi
Vigiser and Amnon Amir – four men who have really changed the world. For the first time it was possible for people to
communicate with their friends and know when their friends are online.
In 1999, Dov Moran, an Israeli engineer and entrepreneur, along
with his colleagues at msystems, invented an innovative device
that could be connected to a computer quickly and easily. The
device did not require a preliminary installation process and it
operated using a standard connection that exists in any modern
computer. It was small, reliable and enabled unlimited expansion
of the scope of memory.
VoIP technology enables telephone calls to be transmitted
via the internet.
The internet was originally designed to transfer computer
data, thus a special application that would allow the
transfer of telephone calls via internet had to be
developed.
This type of innovative software was first developed in
1995 by Alon Cohen, Lior Haramati, Ofer Shem-Tov, Elad
Sion, Opher Kahane and Dror Tirosh - Israeli software
developers at VocalTec.
In 1995, Israeli entrepreneur Amnon
Ovadia identified the need for
an online English–Hebrew
dictionary that did not interrupt
the reading process. As a result,
Babylon Ltd. was founded in
1997 and launched the first
version of Babylon, a computer
dictionary and translation
program.

screenwriter, was a pioneer of Israeli rock music
and is widely regarded as the greatest and most
influential Israeli singer and musician of all time.
Beer Sheva
Achinoam Nini ,also known by her professional name Noa, is a leading Israeli international
concert and recording artist.
Noa has performed in Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in New York City, Olympia in Paris,
Rome's Colosseum. In 2000, Noa recorded the theme song of "Life Is Beautiful", Roberto
Benigni's Oscar award-winning film.
Shlomo Gronich , singer, songwriter, pianist, composer,
arranger, bandleader. He is acclaimed internationally
for his numerous multi-cultural projects with The
Sheba Choir consisting of young immigrants from
Ethiopia.
Shlomo Gronich composes classical music, performed by
leading ensembles and orchestras also jazz, world
music, and music for cinema, theater and dance. He
received many prizes and awards for his contribution
to musical life in Israel.
