The Tomcat Tool
for rigging up smaller ID
BOPs to a Drilling or Workover
BOP Stack
1
What does it do?
Crosses over large BOP to small bore for
wireline, coil tubing, snubbing or pumping
Rig up and rig down time is minutes
Achieves full working pressure of the
annular preventer
2
Benefits?
Has a full working pressure primary seal
A full working pressure back up secondary
mechanical flow barrier
Enhances safety for the crew and operation
Saves time and money
3
What is it?
Two (2) pieces:
- shooting nipple
High Pressure
Shooting Nipple
(HPSN) Assembly
- hold down flange

Initial rig up of Hold down Flange
Install the hold down
flange with the stack
with standard studs

5
How does HPSN rig up?
When you need
small bore BOPs
install the HP
Shooting Nipple
(HPSN) to hold
down flange
Installs with acme
threads (12 turns at
low torque)
Rotary

6
How does it work?
Upward or
downward forces
are supported by
the flange
Primary seal is
annular element
Secondary seal is
lip seal

8
What is it good for?
WL work on
drilling stacks
Coil tubing on
drilling stacks
Snubbing
operations
Pumping
operations
9
What are the advantages?
Saves lots of time and
costs
Operations are safer
for personnel and rig
Reduces climbing to
install conventional
systems
System is properly
pressure tested
10
Cost advantage?
Conventional method with
a requires removal and
reinstallation of bell nipple
and a crossover = 10 hrs
Tomcat Tool = 1 hour
Savings 9 hours per run
At $1500/hr for rig time
savings = $13,500 per run
(before rental costs)
