The Basics of MIST

What:

Public Law 107-314 of the FY03 Defense Authorization Act Directed the DOD and VA to implement a Heath Care Incentive Fund

The VA (as Lead Agent) has proposed a joint agency, satellite based, educational channel using current medical content from the CDC, VA, DOD Services, and other providers

Satellite-based medical channel for DOD provides professional education & training –intending to offer six to eight hours a day, live & prerecorded

• •

The Basics of MIST

Why

Increasing need to share medical information and training—rapidly and universally—using existing infrastructures

– –

Permits exchange of medical training and information CME/CEU credits for selected programs

Offers access to very large segment of DOD population thanks to GETN

Cost-effective—centrally funded, no local costs

Allows for rapid, cost-effective deployment of additional infrastructure where needed When & Where:

Programs are listed in catalog under “MIST” and also on the daily schedule
