Introduction
The Kandyan Kingdom was located in central and western
Ceylon
It was the most important kingdom
It was the last independent Sri Lankan kingdom
It survived attacks from the Portuguese and the Dutch
It was finally conquered by the British in 1818
Kandyan Kingdom’s

Before the capture of Kandy, they flourished under the
rule of their Nayak Kings
Their kingdom was known by many names such as:
Kanda Uda Pasrata
The Senkadagala Kingdom
The Kanda Udarata
The Mahanuwara Kingdom
Sri Wardhanapura
Sinhalé
Thun Sinhalaya or Tri Sinhala
