Volunteer recruitment and
appreciation
• You organize a race, you don't pay for your
licence. You build trails, same.
• Dedicated volunteer coordinator position.
Paid?
• find ways to reward those who volunteer, i.e.
reduced MCA fees, BBQ's and drinks, posts on
the website
Clubs should be held accountable for
not running or canceling races /
stronger
clubs
• Make organizers COMMIT with a deposit, so they actually hold their

race.
Hold people accountable
Talk to the clubs ... Find out what's going on at the club level
Get more clubs to put on races, or have more cup races
The best clubs in Tri or XC skiing are NOT shop based, they are
community or racer based.
Bring the club leaders together, make sure everyone is heard and
respected.
Process for club coach development
encouragement collaborative race organization across clubs.
More (road) races and commissaires
• Work more closely with bike shops/clubs. Make sure they
feel like they have a voice.
• Make it clearer/easier to hold more 'events‘
• More courses and outlines of fees and payment of
commissaires
• Have the MCA responsible for providing the race officials
and organizers (paid positions).
• Try to have more shops involved and more communities
• Simplify the job by using chip timing, computers for
registration and results
• Road racing is huge down south, what can we learn from
them. MN for ex.
More fun family races, let families race
together
• More organized events along the lines of 'Bring a
Friend' events. Fun being the emphasis.
• Find a way to do either both in one day/one location,
or two days/one location.
• More advantageous to run an event. key word is
event. the most successful stuff this year had nothing
to do with high performance racing.
• Stop trying to complicate and just go with what has
worked
• Family type events. Different riding levels with a guide
for each from the area to help people have fun.
Better advertising, promotion and
organization of races
• Have MCA representatives visit schools to promote the MCA and
cycling
• Expanded poster campaign and consistency, possibly thru other
sports
• Highly organized and advertised making the events profitable(for
organizers) and memorable instead of forgettable…quality not
quantity.
• Advertisement in bike shops, more shop involvement, ads in paper.
• Get the info from race organizers sooner
• Support Organizers, not create barriers for them
• hire Social Media person, or volunteers to video races
• More advertising and more spectator friendly events
Keep the price of racing down
• You organize a race, you don't pay for your
licence. You build trails, same.
• Reduce license and race fees.
• We could also pound the pavement for more
funding from different areas
• Recruit more corporate sponsorship
Secure race venues in Parks and on
private land, more venues
• Solve the permit or political issues that got in
the way.
• Have a committee that would do the majority
of the back ground work for a race and work
with a club so that more clubs would be
willing to participate.
• Facilitate joint trail work days or inter-club
rides in venues around the province
Better communication across the
organization
• Work more closely with bike shops/clubs. Make sure
they feel like they have a voice.
• Personal Visit to Clubs to establish good relations
• Annual Surveys
• Advertise strategic goals clearly on website.
• A board position and committee dedicated to
communication
• More active use of Facebook (looks like this is
beginning to take place), updated website
• website is hard to navigate, some content is buried or
outdated
Attract new members, and help them
learn to race
• School programs for bike safety and introduction to
competitive cycling.
• Increase presence at grassroots, education in schools
• Get into the schools; work with the PE teachers.
Downplay the racing of the KOM program and
encourage more social events/bike repair
clinics/arrange rides to local sites like the Forks so kids
know that bikes can be part of their everyday.
• partner with other like-minded sports for cross training
• family packages , mca covers insurance at a few events
• BMX. Make cycling cool.
MCA need to work together as a team
• Mandate that only one discipline can be
scheduled on any given date.
• Allow committees to run their program, use their
experience...
• Communication and Respect
• Develop a schedule with the input of all clubs
• Avoid event conflicts
• develop a balanced schedule, build towards
'classic' events
• encouragement to collaborate avenue the most.
active
advocacy
• Project aMore
clear image
of cyclists
not being
weird nut-bars who hate cars, but rather
normal everyday working people, many of
whom also drive cars.
• Have an MCA rep that liaises with city and
provincial gov.
• demonstrations at schools, possibly create
relationship with MPI
