A quorum was present with financial members non-financial/ visiting sorors. Sor. Pearline Singletary moved to adopt the agenda. The motion was seconded. Motion passes. Please review the guidelines listed below that will help in our correspondence process. •All committee meetings, updates, announcements, etc. that you would like included in the upcoming CAC Weekly Update should be submitted each week, no later than Sunday, 5:00pm to [email protected]. You must write your own submission in its’ entirety. This will insure inclusion of any early week meetings, as the Update will be emailed during the early part of each week. If you have an exception/emergency, feel free to call 513-258-3799. •Please submit your info in the format as you would like for it to appear in the update. Your info should be inclusive but brief, in STANDARD TYPE AND FONT. Include pertinent info such as date, time, location, contact person, email, phone number, etc. Only minor editing will be done. •Keep in mind that NOT EVERY FLYER/ATTACHMENT CAN BE INCLUDED. Therefore, submit your info as bullet points that can be included in the body of the update or send an attachment that is small in capacity. •Please UPDATE YOUR CURRENT ADDRESS, EMAIL, PHONE NUMBERS, ETC. with our Sergeant at Arms as you sign in for the Chapter Meeting. Also, if you have information that is currently not on file for another Soror, please provide it to us. Request/Ads/Donations: • Soror Marcia Fudge is seeking financial support of atleast 1000 donors by July 1 for her candidacy in Ohio’s 11th Congressional District. • Walnut Hills High School Black Alumni Network (BAN) is seeking financial support for their inaugural Souvenir Book that will support the Academic Bridge Program and the BAN programs, including scholarships. CINCINNATI ALUMNAE Presidents Report April 18, 2009 This month our Chapter will experience the entire spectrum of membership in our Illustrious Sisterhood, from the Initiation of new members to participating in the Omega Omega service for Soror Elsie Brown and so it is befitting for us to focus on the vow we each made to make “Membership in Delta Sigma Theta is a Lifetime Commitment”. I thank each of you for living your commitment to our Sorority and the community. Local Updates ▲ As you may know Soror Elsie Brown a dedicated and generous member of the Cincinnati Alumnae Chapter for many years, passed away on Saturday, April 11th. Her Services will be held on Saturday, April 25th at Bethel Baptist Church. Visitation is from 10 – 11AM and the Omega Omega Service will be held at 11AM. There will not be a funeral. ▲ Violets to: ▲ Soror Michelle Toney and the Minerva Circle for a very warm, welcoming and creative Odyssey. Also, thank you to the sorors who came out to participate and get to know the Pyramids. ▲ The Sisterhood Committee for planning a wide range of Sisterhood activities for the chapter during Sisterhood Month. ▲ The Cotillion Committee for another successful Debutante Cotillion Ball. ▲ The nominating committee for coming up with our 2010-2011 Slate of Officers. ▲ Sorors participating in the Omega Omega Service for Soror Marlene Bright. ▲ Join us for Delta Days at City Hall, April 28th – 29th. CINCINNATI ALUMNAE Presidents Report April 18, 2009 Midwest Updates ▲ The Midwest Leadership Team Meeting held here in Cincinnati, April 3 – 5th was a great success. Soror Matthews and the team really enjoyed the hospitality, refreshments and of course the gifts. Violets to Soror Monetta Pennington, the committee and volunteers for welcoming our guests with “Delta Style”. ▲ Registration is open for the Midwest Regional Conference in West Virginia, July 10 - 12. Registration is $250 for Alumnae Sorors. Registration will close on April 30, 2009, 11:59pm, EST. To register, log on to the Delta Homepage, address www.deltasigmatheta.org. ▲ The regional conference planning committee has launched a website that provides access to resources for sorors as you make your way toward Charleston, WV. Please review the website (http://charlestonin stitutealumnae. com) and click on the Midwest Regional Conference link located on the homepage. ▲ The Delta H.O.M.E. program is official from National Headquarters and the Midwest Region is moving forward! The training for all new and returning Delta H.O.M.E. coordinators is scheduled for Sunday April 19, 2009 at 6 PM. If interested in becoming a Delta H.O.M.E. coordinator, please contact our Ohio state Delta H.O.M.E. coordinator, Kristen Bailey at kcbailey3@yahoo. com to register, get the materials and the call in number. ▲ Due to the great number of requests, Sorors Matthews and Endalkatchew have extended the deadline for the regional conference awards. CINCINNATI ALUMNAE First Vice President Report As winter fades out and spring comes in the program committees continue to be on the move providing some tremendous programs to the Greater Cincinnati community, below are some of the program highlights from the past month: ∆ Cotillion 2009, 18 Debutants were presented to society on Saturday, April 11th, Duke Energy Center, downtown Cincinnati, over 375 guest were in attendance. Violets to the committee and committee chairs Sorors Shawnda DeRamus and Marviette Dale ∆ Delta Academy, completed Part-2 of their popular education component Lights! Camera! Action! ∆ Delta GEMS, conducted a successful workshop, Yes, No, Maybe? Choices and Healthy Relationships We have some great things planned for the remainder of the sorority year. Below is some key information regarding each program and upcoming activities: 2008 - 2009 – Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy - Young ladies grades 5th through 8th, focus on math/science, meets 1st Saturday of each month. Next meeting May 9th, Lights! Camera! Action! Part-3 at Cincinnati State Technical College, 12pm – 3pm. The Academy is continuing to collect used cell phones as contribution towards the annual March of Dimes Walk for Babies on Sunday, April 26th. Please bring your used cell phones sorority meeting in April. – Delta Academy II: Delta G.E.M.S. (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully) – Young ladies grades 9th through 12th, focus on self esteem and leadership, meets 1st Tuesday of each month at Xavier University Gallagher Student Center (Room 214), 6:30pm – 8:30pm. Next event April 25th & 26th, Overnight College Retreat, Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. The retreat focus: campus tour, financial aid and admissions Q&A, minority student panel, community service, and sisterly bonding. 10 DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INC. CINCINNATI ALUMNAE First Vice President Report – Scholarship Committee - Interviewed and selected recipients for the 2008/2009 scholarship awards. Additional details will be covered in the Scholarship Committee report. – Debutante Cotillion - Young ladies that are High school Juniors and Seniors, focus on developing and enhancing the debutante’s personal, educational, cultural, spiritual, and social lives. A detailed report will be provided at the May sorority meeting. – Social Action committee - Collaboration with community partners to enhance the political and social awareness of the Cincinnati community residents. Currently taking reservations for Delta Days at City Hall, on April 28th and 29th. More details will be given in the Social Action report. – Physical and Mental Health Committee – will be focused on Stroke and Stroke prevention in addition to Breast Cancer Awareness, and Heart Disease. We are looking forward to a Stroke Awareness presentation. – Financial Fortitude Committee – will focus on home ownership and preventative maintenance. The 2009/20010 program proposal are attached for your review and approval. The chapter calendar is posted on our website, www.cacdst.org. We need to print enough copies of our chapter information. CINCINNATI ALUMNAE Ways and Means/Golf Outing Report April 18, 2009 We have the fliers to pass out to golfers. Again the outing is May 16, 2009 at Walden Pond Golf Course. We are also starting to collect items now for goody bags that will be given to each participant; therefore we ask Sorors to begin bring to next sorority meeting. Also we need sponsors, please begin asking your employers for their support with this endeavor. Also we are asking each Soror to obtain two Hole Sponsors each. Hole Sponsorship is $100. We know this can be a very difficult topic to discuss; so we really appreciate your expertise, professionalism, preparation and willingness to openly ask and answer any and all of the GEMS questions. We also had a very successful Spring Clothing Drive! We donated over 10 bags of youth clothing items to the Freestore Foodbank on Liberty! Thank you GEMS!
