Aquatics Sports Overview
 The Sport of Swimming
Over 300,000 kids in a swim program every year in US
Swimming is a life sport
Safety
Heath
 Physical – trains cardiovascular system, low impact, great exercise for
your entire body
 Psychological – relaxes mind, uplifts spirit
 Opens doors to other sports – surfing, kayaking, boat fishing, triathlons




 The Sport of Diving
 Over 300 diving clubs in the US focused on children 18 and under
 Heath Benefits - upper body, notably the arms, and leads to improved
flexibility, posture and focus

Who we are
Mission Statement: WCAC strives to provide the youth of our community the
opportunity to reach their highest personal potential as both an individual and an
athlete. We understand that winning is much more than one’s place in the finish of a
race, and are committed to helping our swimmers and divers develop a sense of self
esteem and pride through both individual achievement and team work.
 Not for Profit Organization, serving the Wissahickon Community since 1977
 Sponsor of Competitive Boys & Girls Swim & Diving teams
 Over 2,000 total members since Inception
 197 Current members ranging in age from 5 – 18 years old
 WCAC is a member of the Suburban Aquatic League (22 teams)
 Season runs from September to February
 Offer competitive swim program to all levels of swimmers
 Provide Scholarship to Senior Swimmers
 Give Back to the community – Charity Toy Drive

Challenges
 Ventilation Issues:
 Smell of chemicals
 Temperature of deck and stands
 Irritation of children’s skin, eyes and throats
 Pool Availability:
 6 lane pool, limits size of larger group of younger children
Turn away younger swimmers
 Cap programs – Swim Team and Stroke Clinic
 Available only 9 hours/week
 Late practice times for swimmers (7:00-8:30pm) –Difficult for younger
swimmers to attend
 Unable to offer AM practices Middle School Aged Swimmers
 No Diving facility for our team
 Rent space from Upper Dublin at off hours – (charged $80/hour at UD)
 Difficult to attract younger divers as we do not get diving board until 8:00PM


Challenges
 Loss of swimmers at age 12 and above
 Largely a result of inadequate pool time for advanced
swimmers
 Do not have year round program – no 50M facility to train
 25 Swimmers practice with other clubs (GA, CBST, UDAC)
 Inability to attract events to help fundraising & raise

 50 meters by 25 yards
 Deep Water for Lanes for ‘fast pool’
 Ability to hold both diving and swim practice at the same time
 Moveable bulkhead
 Deck space
 Balcony parallel to pool for better viewing


