Title I Program

 What is “Title I”?

 Federal funding provided under No Child Left Behind.

 Types of Programs:  School wide – serves all students.

 Targeted – students identified for the program based on performance on assessments.

What does it mean to be a Title I School?

 Being a Title I school means receiving funding to supplement the school’s existing academic programs. These dollars are used for…  Identifying students experiencing academic difficulties and providing timely assistance to help these student’s meet the State’s challenging content standards.

 Purchasing supplemental staff/programs/materials/supplies  Recruiting/Hiring/Retaining Highly Qualified Teachers  Being a Title I school also means parental involvement and parents’ rights and funds are allocated specifically for:  Conducting parental involvement meetings, trainings, and activities

District Assessments

 Assessments are tests used to help teachers determine if a student is understanding the content presented in the classroom.

 We use the following assessments for all of our students:  MAPS (K5-3 rd )  Smarter Balanced (3 as of 2014.

Proficiency Levels – State Test

 If a child does not reach a certain proficiency level when they take an assessment, we consider them for additional help from our Title I program.

 Proficiency Levels:  Advanced: exceeds grade level expectations  Proficient: meets grade level expectations  Basic: performs below grade level expectations  Minimal: performs far below grade level expectations  Our goal (and the State’s goal) is for your student to reach at least the “Proficient” level 8

Update on School’s Progress

 Student Achievement Results  Title I requires schools to provide proficiency results from your child’s performance on state tests in a timely manner & language parents can understand.

Parent’s Rights under NCLB

You have a right to:  Know the qualifications for you child’s teacher  Know if a non-highly Qualified Teacher is placed for four or more weeks  Request opportunities to meet regularly with staff for parent involvement  Participate in decisions affecting your child  Review and contribute to Parent Involvement Plan (part of School Improvement Plan) and Parent Compact  Participate in District Advisory Council 11

How can I volunteer to assist my student with school needs?

      Join the School Improvement Team Volunteer to contact other parents regarding important school information. Volunteer in a classroom Chaperone field trips or events Talk to your neighbors and let them know what is going on at your child’s school.
